Host Service/dofilter.exe

Recommended Posts

i have a program on my computer that i am sure is creating ads all over the place, but when i run a scan, nothing gets picked up? the file is under the file folder Host Service and is marked as dofilter. there is another document in the folder called privoxy.txt, which means it must be associated with it. i tried using malwarebytes, windows defender, hitman pro 3 and Sophos Home. nothing picked it up.

Hello Warwzrd.

You mentioned that you have deleted / taken care of the issue.  Was there anything else besides privoxy.txt ?  and the folder dofilter.

Privoxy is a known proxy service.  That is not a malware.  That would be why our software did not report it as such.

Now then as far as ads showing up on your browser,  Adware can be a very real nuisance and very difficult to remove.
While we do identify and remove some adware variants, our main focus is on malware so there are many adware variants that we do not target (mostly for legal reasons as they do have a eula and an opt out feature in most cases)

I would suggest this to help out with adwares.

If your pc has no ad blocker add-on for your browser(s), I would suggest uBlock Origin.
For Mozilla Firefox, use the Mozilla page at this link
https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/ublock-origin/

For Google Chrome, see
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm

For Internet Explorer,   https://adblockplus.org/en/internet-explorer

*PLUS*
To help totally block these types of  "popups" I would recommend to only use Firefox browser that also has the add-on extension for
NoScript Suite Lite.
and just only use that when surfing the web.
