Issues access most of the Internet when Malwarebytes is running.

Recommended Posts

Hi..  I am having a very odd issue..  When I have Malwarebytes on I can't get to most internet sites including even your MalWareBytes sites...

Its also causing my BackBlaze backup process to stop working and says computer is offline..

I know it's Malwarebytes causing this because as as soon as I quit out of it, all the internet issues clear up..  And BackBlaze starts working again.

Please help. I have used Malwarebytes full version in the past and never had this issue..  But this is the first time I have tried using it since I upgraded my PC to Win 10.  So is it something to do with that?

Malwarebytes might haven't liked the Windows upgrade. What I would do is make sure you still have your licence information, disable your current Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro/Premium installation (under the Settings tab, click on "My Account" in the top right corner followed by "Deactivate"), and then I would proceed to uninstall Malwarebytes, run the mbam-clean.exe executable to clean all the remnants and from there, download a fresh installer from Malwarebytes' website and reinstall it.

Alright, let's try something. Follow the instructions below to download and run MiniToolBox on your system. I want you to run it twice: one when Malwarebytes Web Protection is enabled and the Internet doesn't work, one when the Web Protection module is disabled and the Internet works.

3Al62Pm.pngMiniToolBox

  • Download MiniToolBox and move the file to your Desktop;

  • Right-click on MiniToolBox.exe and select Spcusrh.pngRun as Administrator (for Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 users);

  • Check the following options:

    • Flush DNS;

    • Report IE Proxy Settings;

    • Reset IE Proxy Settings;

    • Report FF Proxy Settings;

    • Reset FF Proxy Settings;

    • List content of Hosts;

    • List IP Configuration;

    • List Winsock Entries;

  • Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;

  • Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Please copy/paste the content of the output log in your next reply;

Alright. Now, open your command prompt, and enter the commands below. The first one when the Internet is working, and the second one when it's not.

tracert malwarebytes.org > "%userprofile%\Desktop\tracertonline.txt"
tracert malwarebytes.org > "%userprofile%\Desktop\tracertoffline.txt"

Two text files will have been created on your desktop, tracertonline.txt and tracertoffline.txt. Copy/paste the content of both these files in your next reply please. I want to see where the connection hangs.

I think I know what your issue is. Disable Malwarebytes Web Protection module, open your command prompt and do a ping on Malwarebytes' website.

Ping Malwarebytes.org

This will give you the IP address associated with the domain. Now re-enable the Web Protection module and try to access Malwarebytes.org normally. If it fails, try to access it using the IP address you got from the ping command earlier. Does it works?

To make it short, it looks like the Web Protection Module is blocking your DNS servers. Since your DNS is set to your default gateway (router), chances are you are using your ISP DNS servers and Malwarebytes block them. Who's your ISP?

So there's progress? At first you couldn't even access Malwarebytes website with the Web Protection module enabled. Is there any website you can't access when it's enabled? If you can't, disable the protection, do a ping on the website to get the IP, re-enable the protection then try to access the website via the name and IP and let me know if it works. If it works, it could just be due to the caching though.

Well It seemed like it was working when I used the Google DNS but then I refreshed the Logos page (and several others a second time while enables and they did not work..

uggggg..  Well I have to go to bed but if you have anything else I can try just post it and I will be back on tomorrow afternoon.

Again thank you for all your time and help.  I have learned a lot and I work in computers(Analyst/Programmer Unix).. :)

Hi:

Sorry to intrude, but there may be a simple explanation and solution for the behavior reported.

Your log shows this:

Quote

Killer e2200 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20) = Local Area Connection (Media disconnected)

There was -- some time ago -- a subtle conflict with the Killer Network Manager setting for bandwidth control with this particular network card.

The workaround is to disable that setting in KNM.
The solution, as pointed out HERE, is to update the Killer drivers.

If either of those does not resolve your issue, then it might help us to better assist you if you could please follow the advice here: Diagnostic Logs.
Then, please ATTACH as *.txt files all 3 requested logs to your next reply here in this thread.

Cheers,
