Error code:20026 Unable to load rootkit driver

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Recently, my laptop always stuck at shutting down screen, I need to manually press the power button to switch it off.

So I ran MBAM to scan my system with the rootkit detection active but always getting this error:

"Error: malwarebytes was unable to load the anti-rootkit driver. Error code:20026"

The scan will be completed without any detection if I do not check the rootkit detection.

Am I infected?

Hello d4rkm4n and :welcome:

The analysis experts will need to know more about the system:

  1. Please read the topic Diagnostic Logs and then individually ATTACH the 3 requested logs in your next reply to this thread only.
  2. The 3 files, from Step 1, to be individually ATTACHED from your desktop are CheckResults.txt, FRST.txt and Addition.txt. Please do not Zip or Copy and Paste them into a reply. Please do not alter, any FRST categories as the configuration is well suited for this forum.

Thank You.

MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

Sorry to intrude.

I will defer to @AdvancedSetup, as he is the true expert.

But your logs do show that MBAM has not been cleanly reinstalled for a very long time.
It looks as if you upgraded to in March 2016, but your protection logs date back to July 2015.  So it was an in-place upgrade.

It likely would not hurt to try @1PW's suggestion of a proper clean reinstall, using the removal tool and following the best practices in the pinned topic at the top of this forum and (because this forum software editor is wonky), at the top of this post.

It will clear out old and possibly wonky settings, log data, etc. And it may resolve your issue.

Doing so will only take about 5-10 minutes and a couple of reboots.

Just my humble suggestion...
