MBAM and MBRandsomware: same service?

Recommended Posts

I'm user of MBAM and I'm using since some weeks MBRansomware Beta.
I've noticed that two services are simultaneous running: MBAMService and MB3Service.
Are they same services ? Is only one of two useful because the system informs that two identical services work together...

Thanks. Best regerds.

Hello Arold and :welcome:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) uses %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe and the service shows as mbamservice.exe in the Task Manager and MBAMService in services.msc.

Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware (MBARW) Beta7 uses %ProgramFiles%\Malwarebytes\Anti-Ransomware\MBAMService.exe and the service shows as MBAMService.exe in the Task Manager and MB3Service in services.msc.

Although they are somewhat similar, in a distant manner, they of course are not the same service.  Their file sizes and versions are quite dissimilar and the two services perform different functions, and must be simultaneously active to allow MBAM and MBARW to function properly and separately.
