Help With Fake Browser Shortcut Removal

Recommended Posts

I recently got infected by malware while trying to download software (don't we all fall for it at least once?). Anytime I opened google chrome or internet explorer, I would be brought to a Russian website. After countless scans I was able to determine that fake shortcuts were created and are the cause of me being sent to the Russian websites. However no matter what antimalware or antivirus I use, the problem is not fixed. I have been able to temporarily stop the problem by scanning and deleting the fake shortcuts, but after a while, or after a reboot, the problem returns. If you know, or think you know how to fix this please tell me how. Thank you so much for the help.

Hello and :welcome:

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button. button.

  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.

  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
