Hi Arlen and welcome to the MBAM forums :D

Use the following walkthrough as a guide>>>

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12709

You will need to use Rootrepeal hidden file scan to locate the hidden driver(.sys) with UAC prefix.

Once located, select wipe file option then immediately reboot the computer.

After reboot, run MBAM quick scan and allow it to delete what it finds and reboot again.

Please post back the 2 MBAM quick scan logs generated.

Thanks in advance :)

Having trouble with rootrepeal. I downloaded and unrar'd the file, then tried to run rootrepeal. It said initializing for a few minutes then windows froze and had the blue screen error. so I had to restart the computer, saved some of my files to an external harddrive and tried again. this time it said initializing again, but after that nothing happened. does rootrepeal take a really long time to load up? I will try it again tomorrow, any advice on what I should do? Thanks

No RR usually dose'nt take a long time but i have a suspicion since i have been using it for my canned fix they have started attacking its operations :D

Lets go with plan B for now!

STEP 01

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading ComboFix to your
DESKTOP
:

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

NOTE!!:
You must save and run
ComboFix.exe
on your DESKTOP and not from any other folder.
Also,
DO NOT
click the mouse or launch any other applications while this is running or it may stall the program

Additional links to download the tool:

http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe' rel="external nofollow">

Note:
The
Windows Recovery Console
will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.
Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Click
    Yes
to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

  • Please post the
    C:\ComboFix.txt
    along with a
    new HijackThis log
so we may continue cleaning the system.

Ok, I downloaded and installed combofix. At first I couldn't get it to run or do anything either so I ran malwarebytes, deleted a bunch of stuff it found, then did not reboot. this allowed me to run combofix. This was probably what i should have done to run RR also. Here are the log files:

Thanks so much, everything seems to be working much better now, I can even run MBAM from the start menu and desktop now. Should I just leave combofix on the computer? Is there anything else you think I need to clean up with combofix? I ran mbam twice after combofix, the first time it found a trace, deleted it, second time it was all clear. Do I need to delete the files under the quarantine tab on mbam? I made a restore point with the control panel after running mbam, so restore seems to be back and working also. I'm thinking about uninstalling all the antivirus/spy/adware programs and starting over, and keeping them up to date. Are there any programs you would recomend me to get to go along with MBAM? (preferably free ones) Everything seems to be running faster and better than it has in a long time. Thanks a lot Fatdcuk.

Ok to remove ComboFix

Go to to Start > Run

Copy and paste in the following instruction

combofix /u

Next click OK.

The trace MBAM found(Rootkit.Trace) will be the a reg key todo with UAC blacklisting,it dose'nt become visible until after the rootkit has been killed.

As far as suggested software etc i personally would apply more importence to learning safe computing practices, keeping software installed updated and all available OS patch's applied to the PC as soon as they become available.

No amount of software is totally bullet proof and will not save the end user from high risk practices so it boils down to risk management and reducing the likelyhood of your security software having to save the day(or not).

Here comes my canned post cleanup advice i hope it helps with reccommended software and best practices :D

Here's some handy reading tho Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.

And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.

Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Safe surfing :)
