Thank you so much.  As luck would have it I've already arrived at work for the day.  I'll run this as soon as I get home.

Should I keep the PC in safe mode or does it not really matter at this point??  I've noticed my user permissions are boggled up as well.  Can't even turn on windows defender if I wanted to, it's blocked by a group policy, lol.

I am now able to get to this site on my computer without having to use another.

When I log in I still get notifications that default apps are being changed for various media types.  I am still unable to get to windows defender, it says it's blocked by group policy.

I'm no longer getting the notifications about app defaults being changed but I still cannot access security and maintenance features due to group policy.  The options to turn on virus protection or spyware protection.  The buttons are grey'd out.  As far as I can tell most everything else seems back to normal.

After a good deal of google I was able to find the registry entry that had disable windows defender.  I was able to fix that.

I have subsequently found a few other things that don't work.  I believe the malware is gone but now some files are broken or missing.

One is as_audio.exe.  It is part of a flight simulator.  When the simulator loads I get an as_audio.exe has stopped working window and the sim has no sound.  Also, canon eos utilty does the same thing but the stopped working windows vanishes immediately.  I have done a repair on the flight sim using the factory installer and uninstalled and reinstalled canon eos utility.  I've google my buns off trying to figure it out.  I tried to use the event viewer but I get an MMC cannot load pane error.  Can't figure that out either.  I also tried sfc /scannow.  Didn't fix anything.

Any repair utilities I should try??  Maybe they all use .net or something??  I'm at a loss.
