Hi - I have a problem! My PC appears to have been infected with a Trojan called MSIVXcount. I am running Windows XP with AVG antivirus.

Initially when the trojan/virus took hold it disabled the PC, unable to use mouse or keyboard. This seems to happen when you start Internet Explorer (version 7 I think).

After rebooting PC I managed to download Firefox and then MB which was then blocked from starting. Following much research I copied the operating file (now called "Copy of mbam") and ran a scan from that. The scan detected loads of trojans/viruses and removed them except MSIVXcount which it says will be deleted when the PC is rebooted. It does not delete on reboot though - I presume because it looks for the original mbam file which will not work.

Help!

Hi and welcome to the MBAM forums :P

Please use the following walkthrough as a guide>>>

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12709

You need to use RootRepeal hidden file scan only and locate the .sys file with MSIVX prefix.

Select wipe file and immediately reboot.

After reboot update and run MBAM quick scan. Please post back the log generated from that scan :P
