Lost internet connection after latest update

Recommended Posts

XDAProblem: after updating my existing installation of malwarebytes to the latest version, something went terribly wrong and I lost any network connectivity.

Windows Firewall can't be turned on, network dependency services on the network and sharing center is displayed as "the dependency service or group failed to start" , system restore doesn't help.

I have already tried some workarounds but nothing has worked so far and I'm at a loss. I think something got corrupted or altered after that last update . Can you walk me through any steps? I absolutely hate the idea of reinstalling Windows

We have not seen reports of that issue here in the forum. It was just a minor "patch" build.
It's more likely to be caused by malware leftovers or damage (certain types of malware & the removal thereof can break system networking/connectivity).

Without knowing what those workarounds are, it's hard to say if they made the situation better or worse.

So, I suggest following the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers.
I am not saying that you *are* infected -- only that the tools needed to diagnose and repair the system cannot be deployed here, in this particular forum area.
One of the trained experts in the other forum area will assist you with looking into your issue - the helper will guide you through scanning, cleanup and repair.

Thank you,

I have a similar issue, on a clean win7 installation malwarebytes web protection is blocking everything (including router web management page). If I disable and re-enable protection most of the time problem goes away, but not always.

I was running MBAM on the same machine with same OS with no issues, any ideas?

@kojot

Hi, and :welcome: , kojot:

Sorry to hear you are having issues.
Each computer is unique.
Problems that sound "the same" most often are not.
The same is true for solutions.
They most often need to be individualized.

It is less confusing for everyone if we try to stick to "one user per topic".
Please start a NEW, SEPARATE topic using the Start New Topic button. (where we can help you in your own topic)

The staff and experts will be able to more easily provide both you and the OP with individual help to get you both up and running.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,
