The editor: more quirks & bugs

Recommended Posts

These are largely cosmetic, but they reinforce the need for having BBCode support.

Having spent a long while to convert my most frequently-used canned codes from Notepad (BBCode) to MS Word 2010 (Rich Text), I have found the following 3 regressions.

  1. The animated smiley for "Welcome to Malwarebytes" doesn't make the trip (and it actually crashed Word repeatedly when I tried to copy/paste from a forum post into Word).  (The smiley has to be added manually into the editor for each post.) (Yep, this is largely a cosmetic issue, but extra work.) :welcome:
  2. Content in code tags in BBCode doesn't make the trip, either. (The code tags have to be added manually into the editor, extra work.)
  3. COLOR is still an issue. I crafted the "more info about 2.2.1" canned using my preferred bright blue font for the hyperlinks (I think it is more readily visible, especially for older users or the visually impaired).  When I pasted it into a reply here, the editor automatically changed it to the dull, boring forum default.
  4. Now that images are hosted differently, for the life of me, I can not figure out how to recreate what we used to use with a link to an embedded image. For example, there used to be a picture of the "start new topic" button embedded HERE. Now, it's just a broken link.  I understand that old links to images no longer work.
    1. But is there a way to embed them in the new editor? (I presume there must be, as the malware helpers use a lot of these in their canned stuff.)

That's enough for now.;)

Thank you,

  1. https://d2wqgvap25i10a.cloudfront.net/emoticons/default_post-32477-1261866970.gif  That is the link to the Welcome to MB link.  When you paste the link, it turns into a smiley, but not sure if it will do this with the canned speeches.  The link by itself does change to the image automagically.  I'll test it in my next post by using this post as a canned speech.

Since you want to make it more clear, you could do it like I do when posting links.  I use verbiage to indicate that the following is a link, as so:
  1. Please use the following link to see MBAM User guide online:  https://www.malwarebytes.org/support/guides/mbam/
  2. Please use the following link to download the MBAM User guide (PDF):  https://www.malwarebytes.org/pdf/guides/MalwarebytesAntiMalwareUserGuide.pdf
I suggest that you please start a NEW, SEPARATE forum topic using this clickable MB Forums 3.PNG located at the top of this post.
  1. Working on that now.  Any image embedded can be associated with a link by double clicking on it to create the image editor.  A long work around would be to keep that image easily accessible so you can easily embed it if you use it repeatedly.  If you want to make it easier on users, you can then make it clickable by adding the link, but of course, the link changes depending upon which forum you're in, so it may not be a good idea to do that.
  2. Bug report - I'll make a new topic on it since it is not directly related to this post.

OK, the double post was intentional.  The link for that embedded image is now this:

Pasting the link directly yields the image:

Yeah, canned speeches with images is not going to work perfectly.  You'll need to do some things.  However, if you use the img bbcode, it should work.

Although, weirdly enough, that is not hte code I had posted - I posted the following:

[img= https://d2wqgvap25i10a.cloudfront.net/monthly_2016_03/56fb2b9f8beb6_MBForums3.PNG.107f93020c29541d7b596ede2877fca2.PNG ]

without the spaces and it parsed it into this:

Thanks for all of that.

I appreciate it.
When I have more time to experiment and try some of your suggestions, I will.

On the other hand, rather than complex and convoluted workarounds, it would be better if some of the basic features and functionalities previously available could be restored.

Perhaps the members of the forum Team & IPS will weigh in, too.

Thanks again.
