Existing Topic links in threads broken

Recommended Posts

Pedro has put together a great set of FAQs that were linked from the initial post in this thread:

The problem is that the links are in the old board style URLs for posts, and they now currently do not do anything when clicked.

Granted, the links are to individual posts, and they just need to be fixed - but this may be true for any sort of FAQs like this that had an index of links linked to individual posts using the old naming scheme that is no longer used.

Thanks for the report seems the path method used has changed. Will report to IPS to see how this can be corrected.

Bad news:

All of the links in this post in this pinned topic (at least the ones I tested) now redirect back to the forum main page: Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Good news:

One can still scroll down in the thread to read the individual posts downstream.
The "sticky" dates back to 2009 and is probably ready for Social Security (or at least AARP).

Cheers,

I suspect there are probably others, but I haven't had a chance to look for them.:(

Thanks!! These appear to be external links and should work unless said external site (our site in this case :P ) has moved that content.

The PDF one points to an old URL and should be updated to https://www.malwarebytes.org/pdf/guides/MalwarebytesAntiMalwareUserGuide.pdf. Does that seem correct?

The KB one seems to work for me. It loads up the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Support Articles section. Should it be something else?

There's another one here: I'm infected - What do I do now?

Thanks for posting this. We will need to look in to this with IPS. For the meantime, the following will work: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/search/?&type=core_members&joinedDate=any&group[9]=1

Thanks for pointing this one out too. We will work with IPS to see what's up here.

OOPS!

You are correct, the KB one is OK. My mistake.

We've been through this at least once or twice before, after a forum upgrade, when the path method changed.
(And it has happened when they changed Support portals, which broke links to the MBAM KB articles, etc.)

I'm only reporting these now, as I find them, because it will be laborious to search, test and fix every link in every pinned/stickied post.

Some of them probably need to be fixed (because they are in important topics to which we often point OPs); others are less critical (old, outdated stickies).

BTW, the new path method generates REALLY LONG URLs for posts, especially replies.

But it sure ain't the hill I want to die on.

I'll take a working editor, BBCode Support and the "Preview Post" button.:D

Actually, FWIW the "expert helpers" link ought to point to this pinned post: Groups authorized to help with malware removal logs

It did not point to the page you mentioned.

Sorry I did not notice this earlier.

Thanks,
