At this point, I lost ability to reach the web. I can connect, but can not use browsers, update software, etc. I restored the changes I made previously, but can still not reach the web. Even after restoring the quarantined files, Malwarebytes no longer recognizes them as infected items. Here's a scan after restoring...

I'd really rather not reinstall the OS, but I don't know where to start on fixing this, or even if I should. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to malwarebytes :D

Run HijackThis, and press "Do a System Scan Only".

1. When the scan is complete place a check mark next to the following entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local

2. After checking these items CLOSE ALL open windows EXCEPT HijackThis and click "Fix Checked." Then, reboot your computer...

Go to Start ---> run ---> Type the following cmd windows command prompt will appear.

Type the following commands

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release followed by the Enter key Wait a few seconds.

then

Type

ipconfig /renew followed by the Enter key

let me know how everything is running....
