Can't Install Malwarebytes due to virus: Corrupt file error message

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I could really use some help with installation of Malwarebytes. I have been attempting to install the program in safe mode from a flash drive, but every time I do, I get an error message saying "Setup was unable to create the directory C:/users/appdate/local/temp/is-FS1CO.tmp: followed by "Error 1392: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"...

I have utilized the MBAM clean tool for a clean uninstall, but this hasn't gotten me anywhere.. I have gotten further than this error message once, only to get about halfway through the install and receive a similar error message.

I have tried alternatives such as "Windows all in one" and various other scanning instruments, but am unable to run any of them on my PC due to error messages of similar nature.

The virus also seems to be creating the same error messages when I try to run just about any other program on my PC, as well as viewing pictures.. Google Chrome won't even open.

I have Spybot Search and Destroy, but upon completion of a scan, it restarts and freezes in the same spot before I can resolve any threats.

I was able to run my Norton antivirus once (won't open usually), and saw it detect something called info stealer.snifula.b, but it didn't flag it. I also saw one called win32.fraudload.edt, so it is obvious my computer is infected.

I am running windows 8.1 on an HP.

I've been battling this issue for a few days thus far, and could really use some help.

PLEASE AND THANK YOU

Hello and :welcome: :

The malware may be interfering with the MBAM installation.

We are not permitted to work on possible malware-related issues here in this section of the forum.
Such work is conducted in a special forum area reserved for that purpose, or at the help desk.

So, for expert assistance, I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the suggested, preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue - the helper will guide you through scanning, cleanup and repair, and through reinstall/running of MBAM.

Thanks,
