Data Cannot Be Copied and Pasted to Back it up

I have all data on external drive 1 (ED1).  I want to copy it to external drive 2 (ED2).  But it will freeze when it comes to certain docs and I will go and find the document causing this problem.  Then, temporarily, that doc does not cause a problem.  Does malwarebytes help fix corrupt data?  Any other options?
