manual capture of malware

Hello< I have a test box I want to look at malware with. I have trusted binaries of several tools; A/V, A/S, A/R, debuggers, decompilers and the like. Without scouring the Internet for an infection, I've been looking for already infected PC's. I have one, and I want to capture this slippery guy and look at it's source. I can create image's of live systems, and been playing with forensic stuff, but before I drop a few thousand on a SANS course I'd like to try it on my own.

Where is a good resource for finding "cutting-edge" processes for manual malware analysis?

Same for forensics?

And where is Bleeding Edge Threats gone?

Most cutting edge stuff from a forensic's point of view is behind private doors on both sides.
