Informed my copy of WinZip is illegitimate

I downloaded a zipped copy of a document from my broker, but when I use WinZip 18.0 from WinZip Computing I get a pop up identifying it as an illegal or illegitimate copy.

Running Win OS 10 downloading from FF 42.0

Could this be a sales tactic? If so has anyone dealt with this? And should I have an unzip from the Windows software?

Says it was installed on 12/05/14

Please provide a Screen Capture of the Pop-Up as well as the source of where you, specifically, obtained WinZip 18.0.

I would also like to know why you chose this subject matter to be your first post on the Malwarebytes' forum instead of contacting WinZip Computing.  Did you think it is/was malware related ?

Thanks Dave,

Well this is odd. I attempted to replicate the error, but it worked flawlessly this time. Unsure why.

Why I chose this subject matter to be my first post on the Malwarebytes forum instead of contacting WinZip Computing? Good question. I suppose I was thinking that since I pay for malware protection, was it possible that my last Malware scan missed this as a potential threat? I can't imagine any protection is perfect and so why not go to the source. As for contacting WinZip Computing, my first thought was, if they are not a legit company, what kind of answer might I expect.

The fact that you have asked me why I posted the question leaves me wondering why you took the time to ask. Are you, or the Malwarebytes forum, screening questions? I was under the impression this whole florum advocacy was to help, not question one's intention for that help. If on the other hand I have wasted your time, please let me know. Though I dount that's the case.

So how's fishing from the sand? Out here on the West Coast it has been rainging so much and so hard, all the rivers are muddy and too high. I was supposed to get a sample for WHOI today, as a volunteer research member, but that will have to wait a few days or maybe more. But shooting pics of the damage and the flooding has been quite a project.

Thanks again

I asked because a licensing issue with a non-Malwarebytes' products is not a common theme and to obtain further information about your problem at hand.  You didn't say you thought it might be malware related so I want to coax more information from you to see if the Malware Removal Help sub-forum would have been more apropos.

OT:

Fishing from the sand ?

We are now at the trailing end of Bluefish and Striper season.  When the schools of Peanut Bunker ( Menhaden ) school along the shore and head South.  The Bluefish and Striped Bass follow this seasonal migration.

Indeed I did not mention Malwarebytes in my opening query, I could have and probably should have. But protocol when worried is less relevant to us uninitated in the art of solving these types of problems, I suppose. Anyhow yes I was concerned that if it were malware that this forum would be the proper one, and after scrolling through the different ttles of forums I guess this one was the one that seemed appropriate. My bad.

I am supposing that the jumping ones are the Menhadens? And is that a big fish looking for little fish causing them to jump? Nice looking Striper. What are the red marks on its belly. Here in the Pacific we sometimes find sea lice on Salmon and Steelhead, which is always a welcome sight, meaning since we fish inland that they are fresher, travelling faster. Most lose them in the clear river waters as they travel up slowly. Always better to catch a freser fish.

Thanks for the link to the Malware Removal Help Forum. A much bigger forum series than I thought. I don't suppose I'll need it now, though I still can't decipher why on the second try, it worked without any pop up about illegal or illegitimate copy though. If it pops again I'll know where to go.

Many Thanks and best of luck and skill fishing

The first picture is a Peanut Bunker jumping out of the water to evade a Bluefish whose dorsal fin is protruding the surface.  Taken with a dSLR with a telephoto lens using a circular polarizing filter to reduce light reflections.

The second picture is a Bluefish jumping out of the water.

The red spots could be parasites or in the frenzy the fish was injured by Bluefish while both are attacking the Bunker shoals.

That fish made a nice catch...

Aye...  If only that fish could talk.  :D

Striped Bass were taken from these waters in the late 19th century and on a special train car were shipped to the Left Coast and successfully introduced to the Pacific waters.  Striped Bass are also found in the lower Eastern parts of the US in landlocked Fresh Water locations.

Following Stripers is a life style for many of us.

{ This is the last OT here, otherwise we'll have to move to General Chat }
