Bring back the removal of event viewer logs.

Recommended Posts

I work in a pc repair shop, I used to run this tool at the end of cleaning up a machine. That way it would clean up anything I missed and clear the event viewer logs. So if anything new popped up in the logs it would be easier to spot. Also it seems that since malwarebytes took over the tool it seems to detect less, perhaps I am crazy but the tool seems to have gone downhill after being acquired....

Hi Lazerbaby,

Thanks for sharing your feedback. The purging of Event Viewer logs was actually something we talked about during 8.0.0's dev cycle. We opted to keep this feature out of JRT due to feedback from technicians. Many said they preferred to have these in tact for troubleshooting both in-the-moment and for possible future need. We recommend using filters to trim down Event Viewer a bit if it's packed with logs. :)

Do you have more details on your detecting less comment? FWIW, since acquisition we've tried to produce a similar number of builds and defs. And in some cases, we've beefed up the utility - Win 10 support, Restore Point creation, complete re-write for 8.0.0.

Is there something else you think we should focus on? Would love to hear your thoughts!

The logs can be obtained prior to running the tool. Just makes sense to clean them during an infection removal. So if something new arises it is easier to spot. Things can be looked over if they are cluttered. Perhaps add the option to have them go...

People crying about it detecting this or that has given way to less detections, I say you do not like this free product do not use it.... I have seen it not work on a good number of machines since the takeover as well. Almost gave up on the using the tool, when it was not working was like three months ago. Caused BSOD on a couple of machines, no logs for that.....

Perhaps the tool is straying away from what it was designed for, to be a simple tool that does what it does. Remove adware. Seems like it is heading toward being a tool with a big UI and a lot of options.

Do not break away from the simplicity, developing things like system restore points etc, strays away from  the "bones" of the program....

Just my opinion .

Sincerely yours:  Random person on the internet.

Thanks for the additional info, Random person on the internet! If you run into issues as you did a few months ago, please don't hesitate to reach out and let us know. The more details you can provide the better.

We don't have plans to change JRT's simplicity and lean approach to removing PUPs, adware and other junkware.
