Application Error?

Recommended Posts

On a semi-regular basis, the attached error message appears.

I have been watching it for a while to check if it's the same each time, and it does appear to be so.

If memory serves, it began since upgrade to Windows 10.

What I'm curious about is the fact that the program seems to be working flawlessly, as far as I can tell - apart from a duplicate tray icon, which vanishes after mouse over.

And there's nothing from Event Viewer, about mbam, corresponding in time with error messages.

MBAM 2.2.0.1024 (licensed), on Win 10.0.10586 Pro x64.

Hi and thanks.

Sometimes the upgrade to windows 10 breaks things

That's for sure. Plus, Build 10586 was like a second upgrade...

After step 1, MBAM now keeps crashing:

First when I clicked "Activate" - tho activation was successful.

Second time when I manually checked for updates.

And third time part way through a scan. (The tray icon did eventually appear, but with a red triangle. I'm assuming that was because no scan had been run.)

Anyway, according to Event Viewer, Faulting Module is MSVCR100.dll.

Maybe I should try the process again?

Requested logs attached, and another error message.

OK. Thanks, I'll get on to it shortly.

Meanwhile..

I decided to do the uninstall/reinstall procedure again, to see if there was anything might've caused mbam to crash the way it did.

I mean, like, the first time I did it there was a BSOD (something to do with 'power state') followed be 'windows didn't load properly'. Second time, Windows decided to do an update on Restart. grr Plus mistakes I made regarding disabling antivirus. Any one of these events could've caused the problem, but:

Under the best possible circumstances MBAM still crashes part way through scan - during the Scan File System phase.

However, only on the first scan.

Scanning again immediately (or after next startup) is no problem.

Yes, well.. Whatever needs attention, I didn't get any response yet. I'll need to update the logs by now anyway.

Update on app crashing:
It did it again, a few times

Once when checking or unchecking self-protection module. Not sure which as another process interfered and made mbam sluggish to respond. Unchecking, I think...

And again when adding or editing a scheduled scan - threat scan once weekly.
Setting hyper scan every 3 days didn't seem to be a problem.

Same faulting module each time - MSVCR100.dll.
IDK. Something screwy. I'll let you know if I can manage to get it to crash again.

It also crashed 'silently', a couple of times. I noticed the tray icon disappeared instantly on mouse over, and mbam wasn't running.
Don't have any more detail on that, but it seems ok more lately.
Scheduled scans running ok too, so far.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi again. Thanks for the help.

Just an update on MBAM crashing, as reported previously:

It seems pretty stable now. I redid some of the settings mentioned, such as adding a scheduled scan and checking/unchecking self-protection module.

Unchecking it produces some slowness or temporary failure to respond, but no crashes to report.

I wonder if uninstalling/reinstalling would reproduce the problem...

I'd be happy to test it out, tho not sure what that might prove.

Well..

mbam-clean again and reinstall - no problems at all now.

Except one very minor thing:

Desktop shortcut wasn't fully removed, but appeared as in attached image.

And, now I have two. Normally, I don't use desktop shortcuts for MBAM at all. So, can't comment on whether this is typical or not.
