Hello all,

I have a question concerning Malwarebytes' notifications.

In version 1.75 it was possible to disable notifications of malicious website blocking, while still receiving notifications for filesystem protection.

Can this be done for version 2 as well, or have the notifications now been bundled and inseparable?

Thanks.  :)

Hi Bandit12345 :)

As far as I can see, it isn't possible to disable notifications separately for the Malware Protection and Malicious Website Protection modules. See the screenshot below.

You can disable both the Malware Protection and Malicious Website Protection modules separately however (althought it isn't recommended since you'll remove a layer of protection).

Is that what you wanted to know?

Hi:

Hello all,

I have a question concerning Malwarebytes' notifications.

In version 1.75 it was possible to disable notifications of malicious website blocking, while still receiving notifications for filesystem protection.

@Aura is correct.

The separate control over malicious website blocking notifications present in version 1.75 was removed from version 2.x.

The product development team did promise a long time ago that the feature would be restored in a later version.

But, as of now, it has not been restored.

For the moment, notifications are still pretty much "all or none".

Disabling them and/or disabling critical realtime protection components (e.g. malicious website blocking) is NOT recommended.

We will need to wait for a Malwarebytes employee to update us on the status of "granular" user control of notifications for a future program version.

Thanks,

Hi:

For the record, the IP block popups are largely cosmetic, and should have no impact on the torrenting process itself.

In other words, the notifications can be ignored (I do NOT mean excluding the blocked IPs from the website protection ;) ).

So, there's no real need to disable the notifications.

If you do disable them, you will also be disabling other program notifications.

So you'll probably want to keep an eye on your MBAM protection logs and scan logs, to monitor the system.

I would not suggest reverting to version 1.75.

Version 2.x contains MANY, MANY protection and scanning engine improvements (as well as UI/UX enhancements) over version 1.75.

So, reverting to 1.75 would weaken your system protection.

Moreover, support for version 1.75 will end eventually.

Thanks,

Normally I would agree with ignoring the popup notifications, but they are annoying as they pop up every second (i.e.: 60 per minute)

I don't want to disable the protection, just the popups.

I will take your advice and 'not' revert back to v1.75, but with regards to separating the system & web notifications, v1.75 is better than v2

You can exclude the torrent process in web exclusions under "add process" issue gone.

Thanks for that tip, @Porthos.

@Bandit12345: this KB topic expands on this a bit: How do I stop Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from blocking a website or network program that I trust?

Note: Adding items to this list may result in your computer becoming more vulnerable. You should only exclude IP addresses, domains, or processes that you trust. If you are using a Peer-to-peer application, adding the process to the Exception List is advised over adding the IP address or domain, as this will continue to protect your computer from malicious content.

Thanks again (from a non-torrenter), :D

The problem with adding torrent webpage exclusions is that I would have to add hundreds of ip addresses.

Most of these address I don't want to trust because they can be potentially harmful to your computer.

I am going to keep Malwarebytes fully operational without exclusions, just turn off the notifications.

Maybe one day MB will fix the issue of these combined notifications and return to v1.75 method of separating web & system.

Yep, as @Firefox and @Porthos explained, if you feel that you must stop the IP block popups while torrenting, please have a read here, so that you can do so as safely as possible:

There's nothing for MBAM to "fix", as it's not broken. It's doing its job. :)

(But, yes, perhaps there may someday be a specific option to disable IP block notifications.  But we must wait for a staff member to update us on that possibility.)

Cheers,
