Hicosmea detected by MBAM removed but reappears

Recommended Posts

When I run MBAM, it detects some signs of Hicosmea in my registry. It removes these, but when I rerun MBAM after a restart, signs of Hicosmea continue to show up.

I have attached FRST.exe data and Mbam Log information.

Can anyone assist in getting rid of Hicosmea?

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll try to help your with your issue.

Before we start please read and note the following:

  • We're primarily oriented on malware removal here, so you must know that some issues just cannot be solved and you must be prepared for this. Some tools we use here will remove your browser search history, so backup your important links and all the files whose loss is unacceptable.
  • Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.
  • Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
  • Do not paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work easier. There is a More reply options button, that gives you Upload Files option below which you can use to attach your reports. Always attach reports from all tools.
  • Always execute my instructions in given order. If for some reason you cannot completely follow one instruction, inform me about that.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.
:excl: I can't foresee everything, so if anything not covered in my instructions happens, please stop and inform me!

:excl: There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!

When I run MBAM, it detects some signs of Hicosmea in my registry. After MBAM removes Hicosmea, I can run an MBAM scan and it is clean. However Hicosmea shows up later. I have not determined what I do that triggers Hicosmea to return.

I have attached FRST.exe data and Mbam Log information.

I can run MBAM now and it does not find Hicosmea, but I expect I will see tracks in the registry from it in the next few days. This is what happened after I ran the tools in the last few weeks.

The pattern has been -- I run MBAM every few days, it finds signs of Hicosmea in the registry, and I have MBAM delete or quarantine them. I can rerun MBAM and everything is clean, but a scan in the next few days eventually finds the problem again. My theory is Hicosmea is hiding in some program I do not run all the time. Maybe I need to run the scan more often to see if I can find correlation with executing some program.

Thank you for your time. Any additional advice is appreciated.
