I have a Windows ME and I haven't used it in a year or more because I got a virus or something. I'm trying to fix it for my mom since she needs a computer to check her stocks and stuff. The only problem is that I seem to be missing a ton of .dll files and I don't think I've gotten any application files to install as of yet.

I tried both the Hijack logs and the Anti-Malware program, but neither worked. I'm too tired at the moment to search for an anti-virus that I can actually fit onto my USB. I tried Avast, but you need a internet connection, which got destroyed because I'm missing some .dll files.

I think I have Windows NT 4.0, not even sure. (Anti-Malware)

What should I do? I'm lost, I don't know which .dll files I need for Windows ME or which is safe. Its three in the morning, maybe someone can help me when I wake up. Should I just get all the common .dlls and put them in system32 and wish for the best? I don't even know what the common .dll files are.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware does not support W98 operating systems, so you won't get it to run at all.

I'm not sure what apps still support this OS. It's no longer supported by Microsoft either, so any exploits or security holes currently in it, will never be fixed. It's unsafe to surf the Net regularly with it.

Uhm, I'm a tad confused. I thought I was using Windows 2000 (Millennium Edition).

I already backed up the important information on the computer and I was wondering if I should just make a bootable CD for Windows XP. Then just reformat my computer. I lost my copy of Windows ME =/. Now I'm just typing randomly, I have no idea what to do.

~Thanks for the welcome.

ME is the same platform as 98.

And yes, best thing to do is to upgrade to XP. But you'll need an actual install disk for that.
