Hello and :welcome: :

Yes, enabling the MBAM self-protection module can prevent changing certain MBAM settings.
That's what it is designed to do.

The program Self Protection will prevent renaming, moving, or deleting any files related to the program including shortcuts on the Desktop. If you wish to move or rename a shortcut or uninstall the program or run the MBAM Clean Removal Process then you need to first disable the Self Protection module. From Settings -> Advanced Settings -> uncheck the "Enable self-protection module" and close the program. It can also prevent or hinder installation of other Malwarebytes products so make sure to disable the Protection Module before installing other Malwarebytes programs.

However, each computer is unique.
There are several other reasons for the realtime protection modules to become disabled, including the presence of PUPs and malware, as well as misconfigured settings, corrupted installation, etc.

So, there is no "one-size-fits-all" solution for the issue.
That's why we generally stick to a standard process for troubleshooting.

Thanks for reporting your results.
