Cannot re-install Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

When running Malwarebytes Premium, scan hung up and wold not proceed. Based on what I read in forum(s), I used the MBAM Clean Removal Process to remove the program. When trying to re-install, I keep getting an error - "Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied." I ran mbam-check forst to try and create a log but it came up empty.

Hello and :welcome: :

If I understand your post correctly, it sounds as if you are trying to run the MBAM setup file ("installer") from a temp folder?

You need to download and SAVE the mbam-setup file somewhere (e.g. on your desktop or to your downloads folder) first, and THEN run it (right-click and "run as adminstrator" if you are on Vista or higher).

I suggest having another look at the detailed instructions here: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x.

It might help to print them out so that you can refer to them.

The process sounds harder than it is -- the tutorial is just broken down into small steps.

Also see here: How do I install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?

And here: How do I activate Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks

Addendum

Is this the same computer?

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/595973/trojanagent-last-week-now-cracktoolagent/

If so, it's confusing, inefficient and counter-productive to work on the same computer simultaneously in multiple venues.

I suggest that you continue to work with your helper at bleepingcomputer.

Please feel free to come back here for specific help with MBAM, if needed, AFTER that thread has been completed and closed.

Thanks for your understanding and patience,

yes, it is the same thread. I was trying to run the malwarebytes program after the fixes yesterday when the program hung and would not continue. I re-downloaded the program after your post and used 'send to' desktop as there is no 'save to' option. Once there, I used 'run as administrator' and got it to install and it is now running. thanks for the assist.
