There is no set number of times per day, it all depends on when they need to add or remove things from the database.  They update it more often during the week as opposed to the weekends.

Currently the DB version as I type this is 2015.11.14.7 (the .7 means its been updated 7 times today if I am not mistaken)

Hi:

Until @Firefox returns.... :)

If there are no updates available at the time of a manual or scheduled update check, then there are no updates available.

If you are checking manually, "No Updates Available" would be the expected dialog in that situation.
If the update check is occurring automatically, via the scheduler, and there is no available update, then the update check will NOT show up in the Protection Log.  (IOW only those update checks that occur when there *is* an update available  and downloaded will be logged.)

You haven't mentioned what version of MBAM you are running, or even what database you are on.
The current version, as of the moment, is 2015.11.15.03.

I suggest posting some basic diagnostic logs, in order to get a better idea what might be going on. :)

Please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

Thank you,

Normally it would go thru the updating process with the blue sliding bar from left to right and when finished it would tell you.

My database version is as follows v02015.11.15.03 which would appear to be current?? Just have never seen the "no updates available" message before when manually updating.

Thank you,

Normally I don't manually update unless the computer has been off for a day or two and I want to do a scan. I have it set to update on a shedule daily with a 1 hour re-try if it misses it.

Looks like I have the latest update. Sorry... all for nothing.

Our posts crossed in cyberspace... :)

That behavior is to be expected ONLY when there *is* an available update.

Otherwise, the dialog is "No Updates Available".

This has been the case for a very long time, going back to version 1.x, as far as I can remember.

Yes, that is current version, as of this moment.

If you still need more help with this, I suggest posting some basic diagnostic logs, in order to get a better idea what might be going on. :)

Hi:

A few final thoughts...

Normally I don't manually update unless the computer has been off for a day or two and I want to do a scan. I have it set to update on a shedule daily with a 1 hour re-try if it misses it.

For the record, MBAM updates the databases 7 or 8 or more (sometimes 12 or more) times per day, to stay abreast of zero-hour threats.
That's why the default and recommended schedule for update checks is "hourly" (with a frequency of between 1 and 4 hours).

With a "daily" update check, you may be "behind" in terms of databases for most of each 24-hour period.
You might want to adjust your settings accordingly.

Re: scheduled scans, that "recover if missed by" option can *sometimes* create issues, because MBAM might try to make up a missed scan at an inopportune moment (e.g. too soon after a cold system start).  I personally don't use that setting, because the scan is really just a "second opinion" -- the critical protection of MBAM Premium is the realtime protection to help PREVENT infection. <JMHO>  FWIW, "Recover if Missed By" default setting is "23 hours", not 1 hour. It's a bit confusing to explain why, but suffice it to say, if you are going use DAILY update checks (not recommended), you would want to change your setting, so that MBAM will be able to catch up properly.

And, like update checks, scans can be scheduled to run automatically and silently, without user input or the need for frequent manual scans.

If the scheduler is set up correctly, the scan will automatically run as a "make up" without the need for you to do a manual scan, even if the computer has been off for a while.

>>Also, when you run a MANUAL scan, MBAM will update the database on its own prior to scanning. So, technically, you don't need to run a manual update check before a manual scan.  MBAM will do it for you.

Looks like I have the latest update. Sorry... all for nothing.

No problem.
