Nothing but issues with 2.2.0.1024 Premium on Win7 Pro 64

Recommended Posts

Zero issues with the last version. Since upgrading, I've noticed the following:

- Scheduled updates do not complete

- Scheduled scans do not complete

- Manual updates sometimes hang endlessly

- Real-Time Protection stops

- Missing daily application logs

Tried reinstalling, clean reinstall, rebooting, etc. I can't get this version to work correctly. I see similar complaints from others. Is there a program update forthcoming to correct this? I've used MBAM loyally for years but can rely on it no longer in this state.

It seems that the real issue with the bugs in the latest version arise because the software developers at MBAM are trying to be all things to all people as it were. It may be true that they are creating software for "Windows O/S" but are forgetting that each version of Windows, from Xp to Windows 10, have similarities in the program, but the code for each is distinct. In trying to create a one size fits all program, they are creating issues for each version of Windows. It would be better if they wrote a version for say 7, a version for 8/8.1, and a version for 10 instead. Just a thought for the higher-ups!?

Agree with you; not enough people working on this product; their data base is "community based" , just see the "False positive section" where the typical answer is "the item will be removed on the next update"

Each "fix" will fix something an create two other problems; I had AV's installed and forget, but this MBAM I have to babysit (uninstall-clean-reinstall) on average once every month.

For what it is worth, I have been running MBAM Premium for a couple of years on my Windows 7 Pro SP1 computer without any issues.

According to Wikipedia, over 50 percent of Windows users are running Windows 7.  If MBAM was as "buggy" as is suggested in this thread, this Forum would be swamped with complaints.

Each computer, once it gets into the user's hands, becomes a unique beast.  For example, a lot of folks run "registry optimizers" which can, and do, trash peoples' registries with sometimes VERY serious results.

The problems described by the original poster could be a result of any number of factors, not related to MBAM coding.  If I were the original poster, I would be running diagnostics on my computer, such as sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r to check for possible Windows system file corruption or bad sectors on the hard disk (the latter could be responsible for the symptoms being reported by the OP).

I am not affiliated with Malwarebytes.  I am completely satisfied with the performance of MBAM and MBAE, and I am also very impressed with the level of support being provided here on these Forums to help folks who do experience issues.

Seeking a solution to any issues that you may have from the good folks here on these Forums might be more productive than just trashing the product.  Just my two cents.  Have a great day.

Regards,

-Phil

Hi Phil,

Not all 50% of Windows users which are running Windows 7 are also running MBAM...   In fact, to be honest none, but absolutely none of my friends, colleagues, coworkers ever heard about MBAM.

I have MBAM installed o 3 computers along with the same AV and MBAE.  Always the problems which appear related to MBAM would disappear by uninstalling MBAM.... so seems to be logical to believe that the culprit is MBAM.

Just an example, recently we the developers screwed up something with a database update and the update never finish; they issue another minor version of MBAM and asked all of us to update the MBAM version; I had to travel to the other computers to manually install the new MBAM version...

Overall the feeling is of a good product but with an  amateurish team behind.......

I do wish people on this forum would stop blaming the pc owner, registry cleaners(I do not use them), and system errors for the poorly written program that is MBAM. This is the only program that I have issues with. Everything else on my pc works flawlessly, including all of the other installed programs. When will Malwarebytes just admit that they rush out new versions without proper evaluation. It IS MBAM software that is flawed!

Do you guys think that all software runs perfectly on every computer its installed on? Impossible, too many software combinations. However, if it runs perfectly on 98 % of the machines its installed on then it is possible that the other 2% are caused user errors. If everything ran perfectly there would be no use for forums like these right? And instead of complaining how about working with the staff here to try to find a solution that would not only benefit yourself but all other users of MBAM.

Not one of the people on this thread has run any diagnostic logs so that reasons for their issues can be accurately determined.  Venting does nothing nor does getting into agreement with someone else who also provided no data to work with.  I have no intention of locking this thread, but that's no guarantees that someone else will not.  I DO invite you to do something constructive other than vent.  You may actually be happy with the results.

Thanks everyone for the input. To those claiming user-error or Windows issue, I reiterate that I experienced zero problems with the previous version on the very same Win7 system. The only major change to my system recently has been the MBAM upgrade. Whether or not it adds credence to my claim, I also work in IT and know how to maintain a healthy Windows PC so I think my suspicion of 2.2.0.1024 is justified.

I understand venting brings us no where closer to a solution, so what info can I provide to help track this? I've attached today's daily protection log which indicates MBAM tried to auto-update around 5 AM per my schedule but failed to reach the server. I've noticed no problems with my internet connection. What logs can I provide for the other problems I've mentioned?

  • 3 weeks later...

I've been using Kaspersky antivirus for a year and in fact just renewed by licenses for it.

Quick question, I clicked the link you give for Diagnostic logs and when I did the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool, as it was downloading, a box popped up and said "FRST64.exe is not commonly downloaded and may harm your computer"  (and yet it did download and it's on my desktop.

Just wanted to mention it because I thought it seemed odd to have a disclaimer and yet still download it.

I'll be back in a bit.

Thanks again.

FRST is perfectly safe.

It is used 100s of times a day here and at other computer fora.

The tool's author, @farbar, is a security expert and Malwarebytes forum expert.

It's not uncommon for AVs to flag tools such as FRST.

It's a false positive.

If necessary, just right-click on the KAV/KIS system tray icon > pause protection, then run FRST > then resume protection.

There will be 2 tools (mbam-check and FRST) to produce 3 logs (FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt).

Please attach all 3 to your next reply.

Thanks,
