Hi there,

After performing an annual cleaning (1st time since upgrading to Windows 10) I keep getting multiple pop-up warnings about bad images when running most exe applications.

It seems that after the Malwarebytes cleaning that this issue started.

Hello and welcome,

P2P/Piracy Warning:

If you're using Peer 2 Peer software such as uTorrent, BitTorrent or similar you must either fully uninstall them or completely disable them from running while being assisted here.Failure to remove or disable such software will result in your topic being closed and no further assistance being provided. If you have illegal/cracked software, cracks, keygens etc. on the system, please remove or uninstall them now and read the policy on Piracy.

I do not see any obvious malware/infection in the logs you post, continue please:

Can you open Malwarebytes, select "History" > "Application logs" > find the relevent "Scan log" and post to your reply..

Next,

Download attached fixlist.txt file (end of reply) and save it to the Desktop, or the folder you saved FRST into.
NOTE. It's important that both FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Run FRST and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt) or the folder it was ran from. Please post it to your reply.

Post those logs,

Does the issue still happen, can you post a screen shot...

Thank you,

Kevin

Go here: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/146017-mbam-clean-removal-process-2x/ follow the instructions for a clean install of Malwarebytes...

Ensure to run mbam-clean.exe when the uninstall completes, After the install completes see if it will update and run a threat scan without issues..

Thanks,

Kevin..

Ok, performed the clean install of Malwarebytes. Let it update and then ran a scan. 0 items detected. Pop up problem still exists. It pops up multiple times as I start pretty much any exe program file (ie I started Adobe Reader just to check and this popup occurred 4 times as it started up and 3 times as I closed it).

Download "Fixwin 10" from here: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/downloading-fixwin-10

Unzip the file to your desktop. Open the unzipped folder FixWin 10, right click on FixWin 10.exe and select "Run as Administarator"

The main GUI for FixWin 10 (created by The Windows Club) will open..

On the left hand pane select "Windows 10"  A list of "Fix" commands will open in the right hand pane...

At the very top is a fix to repair the "Windows Component Store" using Deployment Imaging and Servicing Management (DISM)

Select the "Fix" tab, when complete close out the tool and re-boot your system. Is there any improvement....

Thank you,

Kevin...

Ran the FixWin10 option (as administrator) but got the following results:

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.10240.16384

Image Version: 10.0.10240.16384

[===========                20.0%                          ]
Error: 1726

The remote procedure call failed.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

C:\Users\User1\Desktop\FixWin10\FixWin 10>

I have attached the dism log

Select the windows key and the R key together, type or copy/paste services.msc into the run box, tap enter.

In the services window scroll to Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Ensure that its startup type is "Automatic", and that the service is started. If not, press the Start button.

Below that you will see the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locater service, make sure the startup type is "manual"  please also start that service...

Reboot your system, try the Windows 10 fix once more....

Thank you,

Kevin...

Looked into the Services. All I had to do was Start the RPC Locator. I restarted the PC but before running the FixWin10 I checked to see if anything had changed in the Services. Both were as they were when I checked them initially so I started the RPC Locator again before running the FixWin10.

Got the same error page as what I posted yesterday (no change).

I do not believe this issue is malware/infection related, probably whatever your clean up procedure was has altered or corrupt registry settings. Can you recall what the clean up procedure included?

Use System Restore and go back to a RP prior to the clean up procedure, use the following link for instructions if needed...

http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4588-system-restore-windows-10-a.html

Let me know if that helps, if so can you also tell me what was done to clean up your system...

Thank you,

Kevin..

The computer had quite a few Spyware on it prior to upgrading to Win10 (originally a Win7 machine). After the upgrade (performed by someone else, which it wasn't ready for as it needed to be cleaned) it was struggling quite a bit.

Cleans performed:

-manually uninstalled bloatware

-Superantispyware

-ADWCleaner

-Malwarebytes

-sfc /scannow

-Eset online scanner

-Disk Cleanup

-Microsoft updates

Hmm, seeing as all the apps will have to be installed this is a big step to a lot of work. But like you say, this looks to be my only option. I'll see if the hassle of these popups outweigh going through a Refresh, and if so, then I'll prepare for the onslaught!

Thanks for all your help with this.
