MBAM Tasktray Icon

Recommended Posts

In Windows 7, MBAM version 1.xx, the tray was located in the file "mbamgui.exe" located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware"

I was able to customize the icon from blue to green by changing the icon assignment in mbamgui.exe, but in version 2.xx it appears

as though the file locating the tray icon has changed.

Does anyone know where I can locate the v2 tray icon.

(see attached pic)

P.S. It should be noted that the reason why I want to change the color of the tray icon isn't purely for the sake of customizing, in fact,

my parents (who now have a hard time seeing) have difficulty distinguishing the mbam blue tray icon with other blue program icons.

The green allows them to be confident that they are protected without needing to identify the mbam icon per say.

Hi:

Version 2.x minimizes to the "notification area" (aka "system tray"), on the lower right of the display, not to the "taskbar" (on the lower left of the display).

We'll need to wait for @bdubrow or another MBAM Product Team member to weigh in as to whether your customizations are still possible. ;)

Thanks!

Hello--

Firefox is correct that the icon is stored as a compressed resource inside of the executable itself, and therefore is not something that is designed to be modified.

It's an interesting use case, however, and we've similar requests to allow customizations of the user interface, so I've made a note of the request.   :)

Thanks everyone for helping out.

Firstly, I want to be clear that I had no intention of violating any eula from mbam, this endeavour is for personal use only to help my parents see the state of their protection on their pc.

Secondly, I know that mbam tries very hard to make their software user friendly, so thank you bdubrow for taking the suggestion.

I am well aware that this change may never happen, but with any luck maybe enough requests will come in - that's why I love these forums!

Again, thanks all!

Hi:

From a strictly legal standpoint, it probably does not matter whether the "customization" is only for personal and/or well-intentioned use.

EULA

<just saying>

We will need to defer to the product team on future changes to the program to permit such customization.

Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Cheers,
