Hey folks,

I will be working on a machine this weekend running XP-Home. The individual does not currently have Internet access creating a minor problem. What I would like to do is this. I need to download the latest Malwarebytes definitions on my home mach, locate the given definitions, and then import them into the correct location on the mach without Internet access. Any help would be great

Thanks

Hello,

You can manually download defs from here:

http://malwarebytes.gt500.org/mbam-rules.exe

Then double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Alternatively, you can update through MBAM's interface from a clean computer, copy the definitions (rules.ref) located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (assuming XP is installed)* from that system to a USB stick or CD and then copy it to the equivalent directory on the infected machine.

*In Vista, the file system location for MBAM defs is:

C:\Users\All Users\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Interesting.... I don't even have a .\USERS\ALL USERS folder with Vista64 ultimate (UAC DISABLED)

Could be a mapped location for compatibility with programs designed around XP.

Check something for me, go to C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and create a new txt file of any name you like, then go to C:\Users\All Users\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and see if the file you just created exists. I'm betting you will find it there, thus the second location is mapped or joined by the OS, just like they do with the registry.
