MBAM Premium + Kaspersky Interent Security = Problem

Recommended Posts

Over the last few days, I've had 3 different clients with the same problem. All 3 of them are using Kaspersky Internet Security along with Malwarebytes Premium (with Realtime Protection enabled).

Shortly after bootup, the computer will become unresponsive (i.e.: nothing is "clickable). It does not seem to be accompanied by abnormally high CPU usage, according to Task Manager.

If I disable either Kaspersky Internet Security OR Malwarebytes Premium, the problem does not occur.

I've tried the following, with no luck:

* Adding "mutual exclusions" for both programs.

* Disabling several of the KIS protection modules (Firewall, Application Control, etc.).

Some additional info:

* This problem only occurs with Kaspersky Internet Security, NOT Kaspersky Anti Virus.

* This problem occurs with both Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 and 2016.

* All 3 clients have been using KIS + MBAM for several years with no problem, so it must have something to do with a recent update.

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

Can somebody update us on why these two products seem to be incompatible now for a long time? I have a desktop and a laptop...on the desktop, I have MBAM 2.1, but am still on an older version of Kaspersky Pure...it seems to work, but I am scared to update Kaspersky. On the laptop, it is reversed...I updated to KTS, but am using MBAM 1.5 or something. MBAE throws another wrench into it with its own problems.

Hi:

Until a staff member can weigh in...

@Stevie D:

EDITED to correct my typo:

The MBAE issue is unrelated to anything about MBAM + KIS/KAV/KTS 2015, so let's not confuse the issue. ;)

The MBAE issue only relates to MBAE and only to KIS/KAV/KTS 2016.

It does not affect MBAM and it does not affect KIS/KAV/KTS 2015.

Until @johnnyzero's post just now, we haven't seen m/any recent reports here in the forum of "incompatibility" between MBAM and KIS/KAV/KTS.

I cannot speak for Help Desk, but I have been running KIS and MBAM Premium together without issues for many years.

I currently have MBAM Premium 2.2.0.1024 and KIS 2015 on my production desktop -- no issues.

As this is @johnnyzero's thread (and he has *3* computers with issues), and since each computer is unique, we respectfully suggest that you please start your own, separate forum post.

That way, we can provide you both with individual assistance.

@Johnnyzero:

:welcome:

As mentioned above, AFAIK, there is no known compatibility problem between KIS/KAV/KTS and MBAM Premium.

It sounds as if you are a computer tech?

If so, and with multiple computers with issues, I suggest that you might want to contact the Help Desk HERE.

They can assist you, one-on-one, via email, to get each system up and running.

In the interim, you might want to try a proper clean reinstall of MBAM, using the special removal tool and rebooting the computer when prompted (very important).

Here are the specific steps: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x.

If the clean reinstall does not resolve your issues, then I would suggest logging a ticket at the Help Desk, for deeper work on multiple systems.

Thanks to you both,

Thanks Dale...you clarified things. Getting a combination of all to work seems elusive to me.

Yes, the alphabet soup can be confusing.

Do you run MBAE as well?

Yes, I do, Premium (check my signature block). ;)

Have you tried KIS 2016 with MBAM?

No, not yet.

I do not "need" 2016 for Win10 compatibility as I am on Win7.

And I am holding off a bit before upgrading from 2015.

Lest we continue to hijack @johnnyzero's thread any further, if you are having problems, then I suggest that you please start a fresh post for individual help.

Thanks again,

Thanks for your informative reply. I'm going to try running mbam-clean.exe/re-install on one of the machines and see if that fixes it. I'll post my result here.

I already tried a clean install of KIS using Kaspersky's removal tool, but that was before I realized that MBAM was part of the problem.
