False Positives on Non-Existent Files

I am using version 2.1.8.1057 (the latest) with the most recent datbase. I scanned my system and MBAM detected several executables in my downloads folder that it identified as Trojan.FakeScanner.DT2. However, those files don't exist in my downloads folder (at least according to Windows Explorer). I had MBAM remove the "threats", rebooted, and ran the scan again. The same set of objects were detected. I've done this three times now. I know Explorer doesn't show everything, but I do have hidden files set to be displayed. And I know some infections can reinstall removed files. But what's going on?

Hi Dave,

Interesting results..

Any chance you have a share mapped as a drive to the machine? If so - is this also set up to sync so the files are also available if the mapped drive is available offline?

I ask because your downloads folder seems in an uncommon location (m: )

If you open the sync center in your control panel, then "manage offline files", next click "view your offline files" - the "m" drive might show up there..and those files in M:\downloads

They'll need to be removed from there + also from the folder on the actual mapped drive on the machine that is hosting that share.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks!
