Anti-Malware Home (Premium); Windows 7 64-bit.

Greetings.

I did a complete scan (because some system files seem not to be working) and mbam dutifully reported a list of about 10 pup-files. Not realizing it would cause me grief, I happened to do a file scan right afterwards and before reading the list or taking action; and I lost my pup list.

The history section shows nothing in quarantine which isn't surprising because I didn't take action before the list disappeared. But my application logs also seem to show clean results.

I'm attaching screenshots of the two history windows. Also the four xml reports, from oldest to newest, from today. Should I have done screenshots instead for those? Or posted the content here (it would be pretty long for all four)?

I can't find the results of that scan anywyere. I'll start another scan which is time-consuming but for now the only thing I know to do. But for future reference, where might I have found that list?

BTW, I've sent an email to the PTB but should have come here first. Apologies to all concerned.

Hi:

For the record, the Threat scan is the recommended and default scan type, as it looks everywhere live malware is likely to be.

Routine use of "full", "custom" scans of all mounted drives and volumes of the entire system is neither necessary nor recommended.

It is a task better suited to your anti-virus.

Having said that.....
Your scan logs appear to be clean, but they also show some non-default scanner settings.

And it's not clear what this statement means: "...because some system files seem not to be working"???

In order to better assist you, it would help to have a bit more system information: :)
Please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

Thank you,

Hi and thanks for your really fast response. I think I have it figured out. I think that because I never hit the "finish" button, the process didn't actually complete and what I expected to find as a list was never created. At least that's what I think.

Meanwhile, I did the scan again and my memory was, not for the first time, a little off. There were 33 puppies. This time I did quarantine them, reboot and they have now been deleted.

All that being said, I think I'll not take your time by submitting anything further although I'd be happy to if your curiousity needs it.

Again, thanks. Especially for being here. It might not be so easily resolved next time.

Regards,

-G.

Hello:

Thanks for the update.

I'm glad you have resolved your issue.

A few notes:

Log 1: shows a "completed", clean threat scan, BUT "incorrect"/"incomplete" scan SETTINGS (rootkit scanning is optional, but the other two bolded items should be enabled), so it only scanned 1 item:

Scan Type: Threat Scan
Result: Completed
Objects Scanned: 1
Time Elapsed: 0 min, 21 sec

Memory: Disabled
Startup: Disabled

Filesystem: Enabled
Archives: Enabled
Rootkits: Disabled
Heuristics: Enabled
PUP: Enabled
PUM: Enabled

Log 2: shows that you cancelled the scan before it was complete.

Log 3: shows the 2 "completed" scans (neither of which is a complete Threat scan) AND the cancelled scan, all run within about 1 hour of one another.

Log 4: again, shows a "completed", clean Threat scan, but with the same incomplete scan settings, so it only scanned 8 items.

IOW, your scans are not covering all of the normal types of files/folders. So they are incomplete.

From the logs, these appear to be "context menu" scans of individual files, rather than a true "Threat" scan of the entire system.

If you would like more help with proper MBAM configuration, including how to run a proper Threat scan, in order to better assist you, it would help to have a bit more system information: :)
Please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

Thank you again,
