Windows 10 Blue Screen of Death URGENT Help!

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I've had my Dell laptop for about 3-4 years and I use it for basic stuff like surfing the net, music, and schoolwork stuff. So last week I updated from Windows Vista to the new Windows 10. No problem. Last night, I downloaded some bad file and it was infected with malware. I used Malwarebytes, Avast, CCleaner, and completely removed all of the bad files it installed on my laptop. I also used a registry cleaner program to clean up my registry. I ran the scans again and it said no infections were found so I assumed it was all cleared.

My laptop was running fine after that, and all of a sudden, I receive this blue screen of death as "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED". When I restart my machine, I can get to the user login screen but after about 20 seconds it shows me the BSOD again. Every time I try to go into safe mode I get the BSOD and it says "WDF_VIOLATION". I can't even login anymore!

I'm really panicking because I have so many important files on my machine that I do not want lost. I don't care if I have to reinstall my machine, as long as I can keep my files. I do have the original Windows Vista re-installation CD if that means anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions?? Maybe it's a driver issue??

backup, backup; backup .... it is to late if something goes wrong

if you have a Outlook or Gmail account then you have 15GB free online storage, or by a external USB drive / USB stick

I would do anything to be able to back everything up at this moment so that I can do a fresh install. Idk if that is possible now. I have so many years of work on my laptop it's so stressful.

And I just know that I used CCleaner for my registry as well as another program... "Win" something but I cannot remember the exact name.

Hi, @kpeaceoutbyee :)

As suggested here, please have a look at the advice here in this pinned topic: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 & Vista

Then, please wait for one of the BSOD Experts or other qualified forum member to assist you here in this thread.

Thanks for your patience,

My apologies. I cannot login to my laptop so a lot of this info I cannot retrieve, but I'll try my best.

· OS - Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista ? Windows 10

· x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64

· What was original installed OS on system? Windows Vista then Windows 7

· Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? OEM

· Age of system (hardware) ~3-4 years

If you're unable to login - the first step is to backup your data (if possible).

There are 2 ways to do this with an unresponsive computer:

- using a bootable disk to boot to a "Live" OS that can be used to copy the data to external media (such as an external USB drive)

- taking the computer apart and slaving the hard drive to another computer - and saving the data that way.

Just FYI, in most Win10 systems nearly all of the data is stored in the Users folder.  Copying it will backup most of your data (and some extra, unneeded stuff also).

Tell us about the upgrade to W10.  Did it go smoothly?

At what point did the system stop showing the screen?

Have you tried going into Safe Mode?  If you can get into Safe Mode, go immediately to Device Manager and uninstall the Display Adapters (right click on them and select "Uninstall")

Then reboot normally and see if you can see the Desktop.

If you can, backup your data IMMEDIATELY!!!  If you're able to get into Windows, this is going to be the easiest way to back up your stuff.
