Malwarebytes Premium not loading on startup with Windows 10

Recommended Posts

I just upgraded my Acer notebook from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

Everything went perfect (yes!) except, Malwarebytes Premium is no longer loading and running on system startup.

I can start the program manually and it will stay loaded and running in the system tray until I reboot (with either shutdown or restart).

Yes, I have Malware and Malicious Website Protection both enabled.

Under advanced settings I have Start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware with Windows checked. The next two boxes are also checked, to enable the protection when Malwarebytes starts. And, Automatically Quarantine is also checked.

I DID try to uninstall Malwarebytes, then downloaded and re-installed, with the same results. The program is still not loading on WIndows 10 Startup. I did not have this problem on this machine with Win 7.

Should I try the Delay Protection setting? Not sure where to go next. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello and :welcome: :

I DID try to uninstall Malwarebytes, then downloaded and re-installed, with the same results.

You don't mention the "best practices" clean reinstall using the removal tool.

So, the first step: reboot the computer.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, please proceed with these troubleshooting steps:

Please let us know how it goes.

Well, I did reboot after the uninstall and then again after the re-install. Next time I need to uninstall (hopefully, never!) I will use the "best practices" clean re-install using the removal tool, as you suggest.

While I was waiting for a reply, I ended up turning on the Delayed Startup and set it to 30 seconds by checking that box in the settings (which was one of my questions). Well, I restarted my system after that, and, it worked.

Malwarebytes loaded at startup. There must be some incompatibility with something else loading at startup, but, at this point, since it is again working, I am not going to bother to try to figure it out. (I do also run McAfee Internet Security, which seems to automatically have a slightly delayed start-up--I never set it, anyway--but the two programs loaded without problems on Win 7, without any delayed startup on Malwarebytes.)

So, I don't know if this is a common problem and you want to close this topic and leave it, or simply delete it. I will leave that up to the powers that be. And thank you very much for your quick response!

Hi:

I'm glad you were able to resolve your issue. :)

Thanks for letting us know.

A couple of things:

  • It's generally unnecessary to delay MBAM startup at all, let alone by 30 seconds
  • Doing so does compromise one's real-time protection during that delay
  • Unless one has pretty old hardware, using that delay feature is generally not recommended
  • You may, indeed, have some sort of software conflict or other issue underlying your problem with MBAM loading
  • Or, it could be a hiccup after the Windows upgrade -- an on-top OS upgrade/downgrade can wreak havoc on programs, especially security applications

It's certainly up to you.

We would be happy to assist you with a bit of troubleshooting, to see if you might be able to disable that startup delay setting and to get MBAM to load properly at startup.

The process would start here, but if you wish, you could skip to step #2 and just post the diagnostic logs:

  • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

Up to you, of course. :)

Cheers!
