"Application Not Responding"

Unfortunately, it seems that I've installed some malware on my computer, and Malwarebytes is not working at all.

 

When I open the application, it freezes and gets stuck in the dock with the typical "Application Not Responding" label. I tried downloading the previous version (Adwaremedic), and the same issue persisted. It's stuck at the "Checking for signature updates..." screen - just a beach ball and that's it.

 

Please let me know how I can get it to work. Thanks!

Have you tried letting it run for a while? Sometimes, it can take as long as 30 seconds for the connection attempt to fail. If the connection is failing, it may be an issue with something that is blocking the connection, such as an outgoing firewall or proxy.

 

If never recovers, even after a couple minutes, that's a problem. In that case, try restarting in safe mode:

 

 

 
While in safe mode, try running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac again. Does the same problem occur then, or does it work fine while in safe mode? If the latter, try scanning while in safe mode and remove anything that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac finds.
