I have viruses on my laptop- how to remove?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am a new member and this is my first time posting so please forgive me if I am not displaying proper etiquette her on this site but here goes:  I have been having an issue with my computer being slow to load pages and/or connect to websites.  Today I scanned with Malwarebytes in the hopes of getting some idea what the problem could be.  The following is the results of that scan, the type apparently is in a folder, file or registry according to the scan:

THREAT SCAN RESULTS - The following is the list that came up after scanning; list means the number of times in a row each item came up on this report:

Listed 2 times:  PUP.OPTIONAL.PCSPEEDUP.A

Listed 8 times:  PUP.OPTIONAL.PCSPEEDUP.C

--Because I didn't know exactly what these files were, I googled online and it seems they are threats.  There were some websites that give information on how to remove these but most indicate that there are four programs to download, one at a time, run those then go to the next step.  It seems like a lot to do in order to remove these but I was willing to do it.  However, they indicated that I should open my control panel and find each one of these and UNINSTALL them here BUT UPON OPENING the control panel, none of these are listed as a program so now I'm stumpted as to how to remove them from my computer.

The second thing is that when the pages try to load the little blue spinning wheel comes up on the tab...it didn't do this when I first got my computer, which by the way  is three years old.  What is that and why does it come up?? What can I do to fix that?   I am looking for any assistance to try to clean up my computer; and would like to try and do this without having to take the computer to a shop as I'm recently unemployed.    I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback.

Also, if it helps, my computer is a DELL INSPIRON N5050 WITH 64 BIT OS AND 400 GB.  I HAVE WINDOWS 7 & MICROSOFT OFFICE 2010 FACTORY INSTALLED (DON'T HAVE THE DISKS).  I have Avast  AND Malwarebytes installed and have run them both.  Thanks to all.

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll try to help your with your issue.

Before we start please read and note the following:

  • We're primarily oriented on malware removal here, so you must know that some issues just cannot be solved and you must be prepared for this. Some tools we use here will remove your browser search history, so backup your important links and all the files whose loss is unacceptable.
  • Limit your internet access to posting here, some infections just wait to steal typed-in passwords.
  • Please be patient. I know it is frustrating when your PC isn't working properly, but malware removal takes time. Keep in mind that private life gets in the way too. Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.
  • Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
  • Do not paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work easier. There is a More reply options button, that gives you Upload Files option below which you can use to attach your reports. Always attach reports from all tools.
  • Always execute my instructions in given order. If for some reason you cannot completely follow one instruction, inform me about that.
  • I volunteer to help you, so please, do not ask for help for your company/business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.
:excl: I can't foresee everything, so if anything not covered in my instructions happens, please stop and inform me!

:excl: There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!
