Win7 PC slow loading pages

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This is the second Win7 computer I have and it is noticeably slower loading pages despite being closer to the internet...just kidding. It is on a LAN connection while the other Win7 system was on a slower powerline adaptor. Despite that it has been much slower to load internet content such as webpages as well as images in emails. I run Malwarebytes Antimalware Home premium and keep it updated. Also run Microsoft Essentials and spybot with both regularly updated.

Thanks!

Roger

Hi again Roger,

Let's see what we can do.

I do not recommend usage of IOBIT products, they have bad reputation, and are prone to create problems.

The Chinese company behind this product was found to be stealing the MBAM database.

Personally, I would not trust installing any software from a company that resorts to stealing someone's technology to sell their product.

That is why I suggest to uninstall:

- Advanced SystemCare 8

- Driver Booster

- Game Booster

- IObit Malware Fighter

- IObit Uninstaller

- Smart Defrag 2

- Surfing Protection

When you see a word "Booster", "Optimizer", "TuneUp" or similar it is often some kind of silly application. You cannot "boost" you system more than it actually is. Microsoft optimized Windows perfectly and they are constantly working on improvements, so these tools are just selling you nothing but "fog".

Only way to actually boost your system is to upgrade your hardware by adding SSD, more processor power or more ram memory.

warning.gif SpyBot S&D Warning

MVPS.org is no longer recommending SpyBot S&D due to very poor testing results (scroll down and read under Freeware Antispyware Products).

My advice is to get rid of this program. To do so:

  • Press the WindowsKey.png + R on your keyboard at the same time. Type appwiz.cpl and click OK.
  • Search for SpyBot, right-click the entry and click Uninstall.
This is optional, but please consider it.

Let me know when you finish these steps.

Hi,

I uninstalled both Smart defrag and Spybot.. We use Smart Defrag at work (very large german company) so I added it at home. For the last year or so I have not been very happy with Spybot's performance. I also cleaned up a few other programs I never use anymore.

I normally avoid anything with the words "booster" etc in the title.

Thanks,

Roger

I can recommend Defraggler as defrag software, I've been using it for years and I am satisfied.

  • The tool will produce two logfiles on your desktop: FRST.txt and Addition.txt.
Please upload them into your next reply.

Let's perform Check Disk here too:

Use the Windows Error Checking utility (Check Disk), with the options to fix file system errors and scan the disk surface for errors, attempt recovery of data and repair the disk:

  • Click the "Windows Orb" Start button, then click Computer.
  • Right-click on the drive that you wish to check > Properties > Tools tab
  • In the "Error checking" section, click on Check now.
  • Place a checkmark in both boxes > Start.
  • If the disk you have chosen is the Windows system disk:
  • A message will notify you that a restart is necessary ask "Do you want to check for hard disk errors the next time you start your computer?".
  • Click Schedule disk check > OK and close all windows.
  • Re-start the computer. The disk will be checked when the system boots.
  • This will take some time to run and at times may appear stalled but just let it run.
  • When the disk check is complete, the system will re-start automatically and load Windows.
A log of the disk check is recorded only if the scheduled re-start is used, and only for drives on the same HDD as the Operating System.

To open Event Viewer and view the log:

  • Click the "Windows Orb" Start button -> type "eventvwr" without the quotes -> press the key.
  • The Event Viewer window will open.
  • In the left pane, expand "Windows Logs" and then click on Application.
  • In the right pane, at the top, click on the column heading Source to sort the list alphabetically.
  • Look in the Source column for "Wininit", with an entry corresponding to the date and time of the disk check.
  • Click on that Wininit entry to select it.
  • On the top main menu, click Action > Copy > Copy Details as Text.
  • Paste the contents into your next reply.
