Very aggressive and stuborn malware

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have ran into a situation where every time Firefox is used to connect to Hotmail a pop-up opens a tab I don’t want to go to. This is just the start, it then starts doing a lot more to send me to sites I don't want to go to. I tried to fix this problem by restoring my PC to the factory settings but it still comes back. I have noticed that when I go to the address bar on the restored PC that it still has a history of where I have been recently. How is this possible? After the first reset, before I connected to the internet (plugged cable) I installed Malwarebytes. It ran a scan and found threats. I than deleted them, and restored PC to factory again. Now Malwarebytes does not find any threats. How could the computer still be infected if I reset the computer? Could this be because of my IP address? Could malware be waiting for you via your IP address, and then quickly keep installing itself? Could this be a rootkit that needs a scan outside of Windows? Thanks
