moosilope Posted August 5, 2015 ID:981401 Share Posted August 5, 2015 Hi, When using chrome this evening I ran into an unsecure connection error when trying to make a purchase online. The same error did not occur when I logged into my amazon account and made a purchase. One of the potential causes for this issue (according to the chrome forums) is malware so I downloaded and ran a threat scan on Malwarebytes. Two issues were found and recorded in the log (attached). Could I please have some advice on the severity of these issues and how I should go about removing them? The two items are currently in quarantine in malwarebytes. thanks for any help, joe malscan.txt
moosilope Posted August 5, 2015 Author ID:981406 Share Posted August 5, 2015 Upon some further investigation I don't think that the connection issues in chrome is malware related as it occurs on the same website on three of my computers (one a mac) and different browsers. It's probably some kind of redirect flag for that specific website.Any help with the results of my scan are appreciated though!

TwinHeadedEagle Posted August 5, 2015 ID:981556 Share Posted August 5, 2015 These are not severe threats, just simple Adware. Run MalwareBytes scan again, and remove all items found. Uninstall some programs We need to uninstall some unwanted/unneeded programs.Press the + R on your keyboard at the same time. Type appwiz.cpl and click OK.Search there for each entry mentioned below, right-click the entry and click Uninstall one at a timeThe list of programs to uninstall:Zip Opener PackagesAfter completing uninstalls, please manually reboot your machine! Note: If you get the message like: An error occurred while trying to uninstall, just press Yes. Note: If you are unable to uninstall all programs, please inform me, but continue with other steps. Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine. Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable. Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop: Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool. (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).Press the Fix button just once and wait.If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run. When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.Please upload it to your reply.fixlist.txt
moosilope Posted August 5, 2015 Author ID:981573 Share Posted August 5, 2015 Hi, I attempted to uninstall the zip program and was offered a dialog box with one option 'remove this uninstaller from add/remove programs' which I selected. It now appears to be gone. Was this correct? What were the two initial results of the malwarebytes scan? I did as you said and have attached the logs from the scan and fix. I have also found a file in my local C drive with some long alphanumeric name enclosed in curly brackets that I can't identify.
