MBAE & Edge browser in Windows 10

Thanks Pedro.

Just FYI when I entered Spartan.exe first and then went to enter browser_broker.exe it said "the application you are trying to shield is already shielded".

So I would assume just entering Spartan.exe was sufficient.

Does that sound right? :-)

Unsure yet. Then there's also microsoftedge.exe and microsoftedgecp.exe.

Ok  thanks for your time Pedro, sounds like you are investigating further. Possibly fill us in when you have a better idea of the new browser. :)

Add Browser custom shields for spartan.exe and browser_broker.exe.

We're still investigating the Edge browser in terms of adding it by default in MBAE Free.

In the meantime you can add a custom shield for it if you have MBAE Premium.

I don't have MBAE Premium, I have free.

@idle

Well That doesn't work here on my W10 configuration as with that shield applied MS EDGE simple hung and wouldn't resond.

Delete the Custom Shield and all worked fine.

Might be because Edge is an appx and not a Win32 app.

In the Insider Preview you need to shield spartan.exe and browser_broker.exe.

In the final Windows 10 you need to shield microsoftedge.exe and microsoftedgecp.exe.

With MBAE 1.08 we'll add these by default.

PS: merging with existing thread.

Would "MicrosoftEdge*.exe" work as a single shield for both?

Stated earlier in this Topic

Posted in #10 says that worked for him.

Although didn't work for me on W10 64Bit

How come Anti-exploit says that cmd is now protected when going on the internet browser Microsoft Edge, instead of saying Microsoft Edge and all of it's add-ons is now protected ? When I first researched this an employee of Malwarebytes stated that people should try Browser - Spartan.exe. and application file - browser.broker. This didn't work so I tried Spartan and browser.broker and then when I went on the internet using Microsoft Edge it stated that that the cmd was now protected. So I don't know if the browser Microsoft Edge is protected or not. Please Advise and Fix the problem.

Thanks,

P.S. He may have additional information and/or he may move your post to this thread. No worries, though.

Yesterday 8/7/2015 i added the custom shield microsoftedge.exe and microsoftedgecp.exe to anti-exploit and it was working on the internet - it stated microsoftedge is now protected. Today 8/8/2015 anti-exploit is not protecting Microsoft edge. I tried both shields stated in the forum - microsoftedge.exe and microsoftedgecp.exe and also Spartan.exe and browser_broker.exe and neither one works on my desktop or my wife's laptop and it was working on both yesterday. Please advise and Please fix

We're still investigating this issue. In the Win10 Preview it was spartan.exe, but in the final release it is microsoftedge.exe and microsoftedgecp.exe.

However under some conditions we are seeing the same thing you are seeing eberhad652. We're still investigating on how to incorporate Edge into MBAE 1.08.

Hi,

I just registered to pass on some info which might interest a Malwarebytes developer regarding MBAE installation in Windows 10 Pro 32bit.

I am running a clean install from usb of the above mentioned OS. I noted that MBAE is shown as compatable with W10, so it just had to be installed to bolster Windows Defender. (I'm a big fan of the program and use it on XP and W7). I downloaded and installed MBAE and was disappointed to see that it doesn't protect MS Edge. So after checking the forum, I found this thread.

I uninstalled MBAE and re-booted to find that the un-installer had left the registry run command intact.

I checked the Task Manager > Start-up tab and an unknown/blank program run entry was there 'Enabled'.

I had to delete the MBAE run entry manually from the registry and reboot to clear.  I don't know weather this is an un-installer programming error or a W10 error.

Just for info - A great forum by the way.
