proxy settings keep resetting on my laptop

Recommended Posts

Well, I need this settings to reach the database of the library of our university off-campus in order to download the scientific articles that our university has access based on an agreement. However, my laptop does not save the proxy settings I enter.

Are you using this in conjunction with a VPN client ?

Where are you setting the Proxy information ?  In Internet Explorer ?  Firefox ?

Do you properly set the IP or Domain Name and TCP Port or have you enabled "Use automatic configuration script" and provided a URL to that script ?

I am not sure what a VPN client is. I am not a software engineer. Sorry.

I am using the proxy information setting on Google Chrome.

I enable both "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic configuration script" and provide the URL. However, my computer is not saving it.

It isn't saving it because enable both "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic configuration script" is not given a script.

Do you have a web page, you can post, showing the configuration of the University's Library requirement for the use of said Proxy ?

VPN - Virtual Private Network is software that creates a virtual "tunnel" for data to be routed to be within the enclave ( in this case the University )  such that you have a virtual network presence on campus, on their network.  Thus you are virtually an "insider".  This is in contrast to coming from the POV of the Internet and being an "outsider".

I can't see that page.

The page you requested cannot be found!

You are being redirected to Library Homepage...

If there is no URL with a configuration script, then "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic configuration script" should not be enabled and the IP or Domain Name of the Proxy has to be entered in manually as well as the TCP Port.

I also suggest testing working with Internet Explorer and NOT Google Chrome until all the kinks have been worked-out and you know what needs to be done.

That page indicates to use;  http://seyhan.library.boun.edu.tr:8080/proxy.pac

proxy.pac is the configuration script. The TCP Port is 8080

If you have entered the above URL and enabled "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic configuration script" then you have some software on the PC that is blocking its storage.  For example an Anti Virus or Anti Malware application may monitor proxy settings to protect your PC. You would have to go to these or other types of software and change its settings to allow you to edit and save the Proxy settings.
