I have a strange obsession with keeping my task tray icons in a certain order, and the Malwarebytes icon is a part of that order. Ever since the last update to MBAM (v2.1.6.1022), I have had to reinstall at least 10 times just to get the task tray icon back after it stops loading. Checking the Task Manager shows that Malwarebytes is in fact running, but its task tray icon will stop loading, and the only thing to get it back, no matter what I try, is to run the MBAM Removal Tool and reinstall. I was hoping that this would eventually resolve my problem, but after 10 tries, I am ready to try something different.

Does anyone have any advice? I have already thoroughly checked my computer for malware using not just MBAM, and I have already tried the icon cache reset, which I was certain was not a problem in the first place since this is exclusively a problem for MBAM.

Hi:

Welcome. :)

You didn't mention what version of Windows you're running?

There have been a few reports of "disappearing" icons from the system tray (notification area) in certain builds of Win 10, such as here.

If that doesn't explain or resolve your issue, and if a clean reinstall doesn't resolve it, either, then it would help to have a bit of system info.

Please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

NOTE: More info about v2.1.6 HERE; User Guide ONLINE; User Guide PDF; FAQ: Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Thank you,

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro x64. This time, at least temporarily, I seem to have been able to fix the problem without reinstalling by going into my Malwarebytes ProgramData and copying the 'manifest.conf' and 'build.conf' files from the "Restore" directory into the "Configuration" directory. I should have saved the two original files that I replaced and uploaded them here, but I didn't.

Knowing this, do you still want the logs?

Hi:

It's not a good idea to manipulate the ProgramData files -- it could lead to further corruption and/or other problems.

That's not the best way to resolve problems. :(

A clean reinstall is the safer, more reliable way to resolve minor issues.

Yes, if you would like help with this, we can better assist you if you would please post the requested 3 diagnostic logs.

Please attach them to your next reply, if you wish.

Thank you,

The logs indicate that the computer certainly has issues. Some of which appear to be from a previous infection. On the surface it does not look like it is currently infected but potentially damaged from a previous infection.

Bottom line is that this one here needs to be fixed. With it broken the entire computer cannot function safely

As we don't allow most other scanners and tools to be ran in this forum I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue. They should be able to get this service running for you.
