Just recently came out that kaspersky labs, found malware imbedded into the firmware of hard drives from multiple vendors, company said it shares a lot in common with the malware that was found on the Iran computers that where used for nuclear research. Not sure how one would stop badHDDs regardless of any option though. But yeah, if one must outsource their data, at least encrypt it and take comfort that any three letter agent will be able to decrypt it around year 2100. There was a such cloud provider a few months ago who offered 1TB for free, and in their privacy policy it was clearly stated that they could go throught all your stored data at any time, for no reason, without your authorization.
