Maybe it's me but the last few times I have used MBAM to root out malware on different computers it does not catch everything and I often have to use other methods of removal. In the past with the older versions of MBAM I could run it once and the job was done. Specifically it has recently failed to find 'Shopwit' on one machine and only yesterday I had to do some manual removal of what were clearly malware related folders in my Program Files folder. It also failed to spot some malicious BHOs in Internet Explorer. These proved particularly difficult to remove as the Disable and Remove buttons had been, erm, disabled. Eventually I managed to do it using Sysinternals Autoruns.

Maybe this is all coincidence but I have the feeling that MBAM is not as thorough as it used to be and that is a shame because it was always my malware cleaner of choice. :(

Yes the current version of Malwarebytes is better than the older version due to some new technologies and better scanning engine in the new version. So if your using an older version I suggest you upgrade and update to the latest version available.

That being said, Malware changes every day, if not hourly so not one single product can detect and remove everything, but by far I believe Malwarebytes to be the best at it.

I am using the latest version and indeed as a computer professional often download a completely new version for each third party machine I am asked to clean up. MBAM has always been my tool of choice and will most probably continue to be. I was just a little surprised that one or two quite obvious threats have seemingly slipped through the net recently. Shopwit is pretty well known but was completely ignored and in the case of the most recent BHOs along with their myriad folders, files and registry entries, similarly missed.

Thanks for the link to the article Firefox, it explains the situation very well and I appreciate that it only takes a slight variant of a known exploit to slip through the net. I guess I was just a little surprised to have experienced these misses having used MBAM many times over the years to great effect. Of course it could all be just coincidence so I am certainly not about to give up on what is undoubtedly a great program.

Your welcome, also being that your a professional and are aware of things that may get missed, you could always help the community by submitting any such items that get missed to the Research Center.

This way you could be helping others once these items get added to the database once they are confirmed to be malicious in nature.

I have submitted samples before that were missed.  I works.

Thanks for supporting Malwarebytes (granted I am not an employee of Malwarebytes)
