Malwarebytes App manager

Recommended Posts

MalwareBytes Mobile apps manager does not list Chrome in running, installed or white list. Would any other user mind checking their mobile device to see if it is there? thank you

Good morning all,

I am a MWB premium user and just joined the forum today. I searched hi & lo for this question but most results are for pc's.

Problem:

Google Chrome. New phone, have used chrome 3 times and hit with malware twice. First time viewing a picture it downloaded a porn viewer (just deleted the download). Last night looking for American Sniper, it launched security alerts claiming to be from Charter. In app manager, force stopped, uninstalled updates and uninstalled chrome. Got a msg that it was re-installing factory version. I installed both MWB mobile and Avast and scans come up clean. Just curious why it does not show up in MWB's app manager when it is the "root of all evil". lol

Phone:

LG G3 on Verizon NOT rooted

Note to new users:

How I became a Premium user. I'm the guy in the family that gets to fix and remove virus's from everyone's PC. My first encounter with the Aluron <sp?> virus was bad. Microsoft's solution was 4 pages long, and involved sending report after report. Instead I DL'ed MWB free version and in 2 scans it was gone. I got hit with it a month later and again MWB saved the day. After using it a couple of more times I felt it only fair to ante up. These guy's are awesome and work hard to be this good. Now the free version does work, but if you can afford it buy the premium. We need to keep these guy's around!

Thanks for reading,     Mbarrile

Hi Mbarrile,

Thanks for using MBAM Mobile, what I suspect you're encountering are browser pop-ups. Chrome is notorious for allowing this pop-ups though and malware writers are using to trick users to install rogue apps. Chrome itself is not infected it just doesn't prevent this pop-ups.

What you can do is back out of those popups, use a different browser, or use an ad blocking app like AdBlock Plus for Android. Third party ad blocking tools only work with WiFi.

Could you share that URLs to where you were encountering this malware, we'd like to analyzed the malware and URL.

Regards,

-Armando

Thanks for the reply Armando.

I kind of figured out why Chrome is not on the list of MWB apps. It is only for apps that I have installed.

I have javelin installed but it crashes a lot. Any other suggestion would be appreciated.

As far as what particular site, I bailed out so quick. Just re-ran search (am. snpr on ppv) and the site themovieflix.com is launching similar pop ups. www.mobile-00.com is one of the popups. Another took me to the Play Store for an app called Uber.  The two I had the first time also had the double zero's in them. One was northern something. When on the site the whole screen is a launcher, when you try to scroll it launches its popups. Set off my vibration instantly. Scanned immediately with MWB and it confirms your remark of popups versus malware. Still feel better knowing your software is on my phone and now on tablet also.

Not sure if this is related but received an email the next morning, I'll let you read it:

Dear N2YO.com registered user,

A few days ago a table in website's database has become corrupted and some accounts have been affected by this failure.
You are receiving this message because your custom location(s) that was used for satellite observations and predictions has been reset.
In order to restore your observing location(s), you will have to select one or more locations on your account. This is easy, please follow these steps:
1) Go to n2yo.com web site, then sign in, if you are not already. The link to sign is located top-right on the main page. If you are already logged in, you will see a link "Change your location".
2) On your preferences page you will notice there is no location defined. Click on "Add a new location", then follow the steps as instructed. That will become your selected location for predictions and ISS passes notifications.
We apologize for any inconvenience this failure may have caused.

N2YO.com support>

I have never been to this web site or tracked any satellites.

Again, thanks for the reply and the job you guys are doing.
