Every day, when my automated scan occurs, it never shows it scans for rootkits, even though I have rootkits checked.

As I recall, if I do a manual scan, then it will scan for rootkits.

So, what gives, and why doesn't it scan for rootkits on my daily scheduled scan when I have rootkits checked off?

Thanks,

NathanielA

Hi:

IIRC, there are some cosmetic and logging bugs that are known to the developers and scheduled to be fixed with a future program version.
This may be one of them.

However, it's hard to say for sure without a bit more information.

  • Please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt),
  • AND
  • Please attach a scan log or two to your next reply, as well (instructions follow).

The staff and forum experts will review the logs to see if they can identify a problem and a solution.

Thank you,
------------------------

How to get scan logs:
(Export log to save as a txt file for posting in the forum when requested)

  • Open MBAM.
  • Click on the HISTORY tab > APPLICATION LOGS.
  • Double-click on the SCAN LOG which shows the date and time of the scan just performed (or the one you are asked to post).
  • Click EXPORT.
  • Click TEXT FILE (*.txt)
  • In the "Save File" dialog box which appears, click on DESKTOP.
  • In the FILE NAME box, type a name for your scan log.
  • A message box named "File Saved" should appear, stating that "Your file has been successfully exported".
  • Click OK.
  • Attach the saved log to your next reply.

Ah.... I now see I hadn't drilled down far enough on the Automated Scheduling "Advanced" tab, which I had never noticed the advanced tab before... and it looks like... if you haven't clicked on the "threat scan" area... the edit doesn't work... so I had just always thought the automated scheduling didn't allow editing.... I really think the menus need more work so people don't have to "activate" an area to edit it.

Also, as I was doing all this, MalwareBytes kept closing and I had to keep opening the program again... like about 4-5 time.

Also, the other files you asked to "attach"... I don't see any way to attach anything here on the blog site. Again, a more intuitive and informative menu, as I'm replying, would be helpful. I'm not a mind reader.

However, after all this, I now imagine, that you were kind enough to illustrate the magic path to the advanced settings, it will probably now scan for rootkits. Now, if Malwarebytes wouldn't keep closing, which it does on somewhat of a regular basis, and it did, as I just said, about times when I was clicking around in the advanced area, that would be nice, too.

Best,

Nathaniel

Hi:

As mentioned in my earlier reply (and here), the logging behavior you describe appears to be a logging/cosmetic bug that is known to the developers. :)
It will be fixed in a future program version.

If changing your settings does not resolve the issue, and/or you are having other problems with MBAM (such as its "shutting down" for no apparent reason), then I would suggest posting a few basic logs, please.
They will provide a bit of insight into what might be going on.
The instructions are here: Diagnostic Logs
There will be 3 logs to attach to your next reply (FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt).

As far as attaching them to your posts, please refer to these steps and the attached screen shots):

  • Click the "More Reply Options" button in the lower right of the message pane
  • Click the "Browse" button, on the lower left, near the paperclip
  • Navigate to the log file on your desktop
  • Double-click the file to load it
  • Click the "Attach This File" button
  • Repeat for the other logs

Thank you again,

P.S. I am just a home user and forum volunteer.  Alas, I have no control over either program coding or the forum software.  I agree that certain aspects of both could be more intuitive.  The best place to post your suggestions would be in the special forum area reserved for that purpose >>HERE<<. Thank you! :)
