New Premium User - Numerous issues - Where to begin?

Hello -

I've spent hours trying to work this out on my own, but am now just at a loss.  I am attempting to clean an infected Dell optiplex, 32-bit windows 7 system.  Downloaded and ran the free Malewarebytes version last night, sttill had issues today, purchased the premium version and I am still infected.  I am reading in the forums all of the work-arounds with the Malewarebytes Chamelon, but I can not determine if this is the first step for FREE users, or premium.

Please advise where to go / what to do first for Premium users.

THANK YOU!

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:

  • Limit your internet access to posting here, some infections just wait to steal typed-in passwords.
  • Please be patient. I know it is frustrating when your PC isn't working properly, but malware removal takes time.
  • Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
  • Do not paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work easier. There is a More reply options button, that gives you Upload Files option below which you can use to attach your reports. Always attach reports from all tools.
  • Always execute my instructions in given order. If for some reason you cannot completely follow one instruction, inform me about that.
  • Stay with me to the end, the absence of symptoms doesn't mean that your machine is fully operational.
  • Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.
  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

:excl: I can't foresee everything, so if anything unexpected happens, please stop and inform me!
:excl: There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

OK - will do all of this immediately.  I also want to mention a few other things I have encountered in the course of trying to remedy this on my own, not sure if any are relevant:

  1. Windows just ran an update on the re-boot
  2. Removed MANY threats via (free) malwarebytes as well as msessentials and followed some additional registry edits, unfortunately I did not manually save the logs :/
  3. Removed 3 user accounts (keeping the files)
  4. Removed unused programs (some I cant get rid of - Garmin in particular)

I have not attempted to get on internet  - was waiting for your next instruction.

I left the infected desktop on overnight, left malwarebytes and msessentials running.

Just checked it now and there were two wihndows open: one with a bogus 'Update Java' Ad and the other with a bogus Malware Ad. I closed both.

In addition, Malwarebytes is open, having found malicious Item "Trojan.Agent" , waiting for me to "Apply Action" to quarantine.

SHOULD I PROCEED WITH THIS?

Not good.

When I open my Google browser, the Malwarebytes pop-up immediately with a message alerting that a malicious website was blocked.  While I know this is a good thing, it is also disturbing.  I then clicked on my linked in bookmark, and a weird looking linked in home page opens - white background, not blue.  It has my username and password auto populated, but I can tell it is a bogus registration page, as the "Join Now" button is actually an Ad.  Also - there is a an Ad below the registration section saying the content requires Media Player 12.2 Update...blah blah blah" and it is an "Ad by DealsFinderPro"

Now What?
