After a little over a month since my last scan, today Malwarebytes found this in C:\ProgramData\TWAIN_32. The type of the threat struck me as odd, what exactly does it mean? I got the idea to do a scan after cleaning up some old programs and manually checking the folders and files the uninstallers left behind. I believe this folder was actually empty when I checked but I'm not going to return it from quarantine to double check. I'm a bit puzzled: was there a real threat or could it be a false positive? After reading up on the virus description while it sounds worrying none of my accounts have been compromised including online banking.

Thanks in advance.

Hello and :welcome: :

It's hard to say for sure without more information.

Please be sure you have updated MBAM to the most current database (2015.01.31.03, as of now).

Then, if you think this might be a False Positive, I suggest the following:

  1. FIRST, please read this pinned topic: Please read before reporting a false positive
  2. THEN, please post the requested information (and an MBAM scan log showing the detection, if possible) here: File Detection False Positives

OTOH, if you think you might be infected, then I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the suggested, preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue.

Thanks,
