I installed Malwarebytes Premium yesterday

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I've Just signed up,

I have been running Malwarebytes Free edition up to Yesterday I then Up-graded to Premium edition,

I did this because i thought the Free edition was doing such a Great job keeping me from getting infected and with the Premium edition offering more I thought ...Nice..I won't get infected with what it offered at a very Reasonable price,

I un-installed the free edition and the installed, activated and ran the scan........

While it was Scanning my AGV Anti-Virus popped up say it found viruses (5/6) and removed/quarantined them..

Malwarebytes Premium found quiet a lot of things and  quarantined  them...Can't understand why the Free edition didn't find anything while i've been using it....But hey it was Great that the Premium had found something so i left them in quarantined and got on doing my day to day things,

Later (2/3Hours) i went back to my PC and did a little work, then i remembered i needed to back up my PC due to doing things earlier (installed MWB..P and other things) So...

I double clicked on Acronis back up and waited...and waited and clicked again and again...the program Wouldn't open

I tried a couple more programs but they wouldn't open either

Couldn't figure out what/why So i restored what MWB Premium had found and....Bingo! everything was running as it should again

I'm going to boot up my PC in a little while and do another scan and see what happens this time and Hopefully find out Why/what it found to cause things to stop working,

Have a Nice day Everyone,

Les

Hello and :welcome: :

Just to clarify:
The Free version cannot and does not prevent infection.  It is only a manual, on-demand scanner that can only detect/remove infections that have already made it past the anti-virus (AV) onto the computer (REMOVAL).
ONLY the Premium, paid version provides real-time protection alongside the AV to help prevent infection (PREVENTION and REMOVAL).

I un-installed the free edition and the installed, activated and ran the scan........

Also, it was not necessary to uninstall the Free version.  The installer file for MBAM is the same for the Free, Trial and Premium versions.  All that is needed to unlock the paid, Premium features is to "ACTIVATE" the program with the license ID and Key. :)

Having said all that, to address your main question:
From what you describe, it sounds as if both AVG and MBAM detected multiple malware and/or other items on your system?
And when those items were removed, certain 3rd-party programs did not work correctly?
So, you performed a system restore on the computer to roll it back to the state before the scans were run?

Hello again,

Well I Booted up my PC and the scan started just after it loaded (SSD)

What do you  knowledgeable Guru's think please?

Thank you in advance for all/any info  :)

I've attached the file that the MWB P found below:

malwarebytes found Non-Mal.txt

Hello:

Those items are mostly PUPs.

This article explains what they are and how to deal with them: What are the 'PUP' detections, are they threats, and should they be deleted?

Some PUPs can be rather tricky to fully remove and may require the use of additional tools, besides MBAM.

And it's possible that there could be other malware lurking on the system.

This article explains how and why: The complexity of finding, preventing, and cleanup from malware
