Malwarebyte scan wipes everything from computer except OS

Recommended Posts

Hi, I need some help with a laptop I am currently working on. A friend of mine gave it to me asking me to clean up a bunch of junk he accidentally downloaded, so I loaded Malwarebytes on it. At first it wouldn't even run until I uninstalled some of the programs that were contributing to the problem. Finally I was able to get a scan running and afterward it asked me if I wanted to clear the malware off of my computer. I did, and after it said it cleaned them off of the pc, it reset. Upon turning it back on, everything except the operating system and the essential drivers was competently gone. I have no idea whether or not everything is actually gone or if it literally wiped everything on it. I know it wasn't actually the Malwarebytes that did it, but if someone could help me on what to do to get my stuff back, that would be great. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
