Hello to all, this is my first post. I would be grateful for some answers to malware questions.

My windows 7 pc started getting a few problems when using my IE11 browser. I think it has been hijacked for redirects. When using one of my regular forum websites, it kept redirecting me to websites for slimming pills, etc instead of the forum pages.

Any way, after scanning with Malwarebytes and Adwcleaner, they have both come up with an Opencandy PUP. My questions are -

1)  Is Malwarebytes the best way of removing the PUP?

2)  After removal, do I need to reset my IE browser, or only do this if further problems occur after resetting?

3) If I do need to reset the browser, do I also need to check the 'Delete Personal Settings' box on the browser reset window?

Many thanks to anyone for any help.

Hello and :welcome: :

Yes, MBAM ought to be able to take care of OpenCandy.

However, it's possible that you may have other PUPs or malware remnants lurking.

And some pests/PUPs require use of multiple tools for complete removal.

You might want to have an expert assist with this.

We are not permitted to work on possible malware-related issues here in this section of the forum.

So, for expert assistance, I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the suggested, preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue, including resetting browsers and any other removal/remediation measures that might be needed.

Thanks,

Hi:

Yes, I see that you now have a new topic in the malware removal section. :)

For the record, it won't be "anyone" replying to it.

As explained in the forum sticky >>here<<, it will be one of the authorized, trained malware helpers.

Please be patient waiting for one of them to pick up your topic, as the forum is quite busy and most helpers are volunteers.

And please do not "bump" it for at least 48 hours - doing so will make it appear that you are being helped and could delay assistance.

Thank you again,
